Recommend ArriveCAN for YVR arrival from U.S.?

Recommended Posts

If you're flying in it is still available - given that the questions asked are basically the same as the CBSA kiosks it's not so much that you save time in total, but that you can save time at the airport by filling in that info in advance.

If you're already familiar with the kiosks, but not familiar with completing ArriveCAN it might actually take a little bit longer to use the latter... but given that you'll have to use kiosks again at the pier (assuming that, like most, you are heading on a cruise to AK so being pre-cleared by CBP) if you're not familiar with either then I'd suggest just keep it simple and use the kiosks both times. The questions aren't identical, since you're entering Canada at the airport and the US at the pier, but the basic tech is the same.

ArriveCan is not needed anymore

It is not mandatory.

If you chose to use it, it asks the same question that show up on the kiosk and there is a separate express line you go into.  When you get to kiosk and scan your passport it asks if anything has changed from what you entered on the ArriveCAN app, if you indicate no change it prints the receipt and there are no other questions.

If your arriving late morning to around 2/3 pm in Vancouver the line up for customer can sometimes be long and it is worth it.  Any other time of the day and it is usually not that bad and your not saving a lot of time using ArriveCAN.
