Eve Posted March 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2006 Greetings All~ I'm looking for some information from recent (Late Feb. early March) pax on the Zuiderdam. Are the norwalk virus precautions still in place? Were you able to serve yourself food in the Lido? Were there salt & pepper shakers on the tables again? Were you handed a sheet at embarkation about a virus on the previous cruise? We'll be sailing on the Z. on March 25 and would like to know what to expect. Thanks! dakrewser Posted March 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2006 If you're sailing on the 25th, then the "previous cruise" hasn't even left port yet. Rarely will you see these sorts of things two cruises in a row, but you should take the same precautions about cleanliness no matter if there was an outbreak on the previous cruise or not. fgtex Posted March 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2006 We were on the 2/25 Zuiderdam. The hand sanitizers were very evident but other than that there did not seem to be a great deal of other precautions. Really did not notice if the Lido tables had salt pepper or not. It did seem to me that people were servng themselves in the Lido. During the Captain and HM meet and greet for the Suite pax they were shaking hands which I'd read was not done on some earlier cruises. Did not see or hear of any problems with N-virus on this cruise.
noblepa Posted March 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2006 Personally, I don't mind having someone else serve my food in the Lido. When we were on the Veendam last April, there was a waiter at the beginning of the line, handing out trays with a plate and small bowl, plus silverware. Throughout the line, there were servers to handle the spoons and serving forks. At first, I just thought it was incredibly good service (which it is), but then I realized that it was probably a precaution against spreading a virus. I don't remember whether we had salt and pepper shakers or not. I do not remember doing without s & p. I think I would have remembered that, but perhaps they had the little paper packets, instead. Both of these measures are, to me, very small prices to pay if it helps reduce the spread of a virus that could ruin my vacation. As someone else strongly suggested, I used the hand-sanitizers often. AlexandNessa Posted March 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2006 Hi, we were in HMC with the Zuiderdam on 3/12. We were on the Volendam, and our crew was not allowed off the ship in either HMC or FTLDFL due to first the flu and then some GI issues. As a result, the butler we hired for our cabana package came from the Zuiderdam. The ZUDM was not in the "code red" that the Volendam was in. The Volendam apparently will remain in "code red" for the 3/13 - 3/23 cruise, after which it will go through a thorough disinfection. Even though less than 1% of the pax were identified as ill, the VODM took all precautions seriously (no self-service of any food, discontinuation of all loaning of reading materials, sauna and hydrotherapy pool shut down, gloves available in the casino, etc.). The ZUDM was not taking these precautions as of Sunday.

My cruise ended on the 11th. They still have Purell everywhere. I was able to serve myself in many locations at the Lido. Salt and Pepper shakers were abundant. I do not recall any embarkation information about the virus that was special.
