Service Dog On Board?

;) I travel with a service dog. She's a black lab and I use her to assist with my hearing problem. She is certified, licensed and travels with me, everywhere I go! We were on Celebrity's Summit in October and they treated her like a queen. They supplied a 4x4 wooden box, with cedar mulch, put on deck 4 for her convenience. Does anyone know if NCL is as accomodating? I want to do the Mexican Riviera, in late November but I won't go without her!:)

Thanks for your help!

Happy seas to you.......

We just were on the Star to the mex. riviera in Feb. There was a service dog on board, I saw it numerous times. I believe it was for a vision impaired person. The dog was great everytime I saw it. I'm sure with advance knowledge they would acccomadate you.

NCL definitely allows service animals, but I'm not sure whether they would provide a box, as Celebrity did. Here's the official wording from NCL's web site:

Passenger is not allowed to bring onboard the vessel without the previous written permission of the Carrier any intoxicating liquors or beverages, firearms, weapons of any kind, ammunition, explosive substances or any goods of a dangerous nature, nor animals of any kind, except service or guide animals, provided the passenger notifies Carrier prior to the cruise of his intention to bring such animal and agrees to take sole responsibility for any expense, damage, injuries or losses associated with or caused by such animal. There was a service dog on our 2/21 Mexican Riviera cruise on the STAR. I was in the elevator when they were being escorted to the cabin and noticed there were 2 NCL employees escorting them to the cabin and one of them started to pet the dog and the other NCL employee quickly informed him that the dog was not to be touched because it was a working dog.

If you saw a dog then they provided a place for her to relieve herself. Thanks so much. I have only used Celebrity's Boards but you guys are making me a believer! Thanks so much for your insight and suggestions. We do Mercury in September and then we're on the Star in November! AW! LIFE IS GOOD!

Happy sails to You!:D

Wizard I can tell you 100% that yes you can bring your dog. We sailed the Star over xmas and a blind man had his dark brown lab with him. They sat on deck together, dined together, etc etc. He walked his dog on the 4th floor. They had a sand pit like you are describing set up there for him to use. He traveled with a man companion too besides his dog. It was a very nice dog and mostly just layed on the promenade deck next to him all day while he layed out there and rested in the sun. He told me once the dog had an accident on the promenade but other than that the dog was perfect the entire cruise. He would get off at each port and walk the dog and exercise the dog. They definitely allow dogs and have special cabins for people with service animals.

"Bluehorizon",

You have been very helpful....my dog will NEVER have an accident, anywhere and she exercises with me by walking around the ship and throwing a ball, on deck.

Usually, there are many people who want to get in on the throwing. (I just have to make sure that their aim is very good because if that ball makes it over the rails, I'm not too sure that she would not follow, she loves saltwater swimming!)

NCL and my TA have been very helpful, today, in making sure that her comforts are met.:) Again, thanks for your insight.

Wizard glad to hep. I did talk many times with the blind man and he said for the first 4 days he stood for 45 minutes at that sand pit as his dog just didn't know what they were supposed to be doing there. The dog would look at him and he would look at the dog and wait and wait for the dog to do his work. I said he must have had lots of good food as left overs to bring back to the room for the dog to eat. When the man had the harness on the dog he didn't want people to pet it. But since I talked to him so often he did let the dog come to me for petting. They would go into the handicapped washroom together when the man needed to go. He really did take the dog with him everywhere. You will love your cruise on the NCL Star.
