NewAmsterdam Posted July 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2023 We have a stop in Marseille on our cruise in Aug. Looking at shore excursions. Is it best to book with cruise line (Princess Enchanted) or do DIY? Looking at all the attraction points and they seem so far way from the port, don't want to risk missing the cruise back. Anyone here have any suggestions on the best way to see Marseille and make the most of it? Any advise appreciated. TiA
mom2mnem Posted July 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2023 We decided to use a local tour guide for our trip to Marseilles. We used a gentleman named Robert Dahan from a site called Tours by Locals. He was laid back, yet engaging and we even had a little wine tasting. Lisa

Most cruiselines will run shuttle buses from the terminal to a location very close to the Vieux Port which is an excellent location to begin your day. This current thread would be interesting for you to read as it has a number of suggestions. Ignore the title of the thread as it evolved to something different with a focus on Marseille sightseeing. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2949795-marseille-to-aix-by-train-advice/#comment-65723499

We let ourselves down the first time by not planning anything (we just did the hoho). Left thinking it was a rather average port. Only ourselves to blame. This time, we organised an excursion which was excellent - https://www.toursbylocals.com/PrivateGuidedTour-Avignon We slightly amended it though, as we wanted to see the Pont Du Gard. We were back well within time. Excellent guide.
