Using Mastercard Fun points

Has anyone booked a hotel using Carnival's Mastercard fun points?

Do they take the points from your account at time of booking? Or at time of check in to hotel?

If you cancel hotel booking ( if hotel has free cancelation) do you lose your points? 

I hate to book a hotel 5 months out then need to cancel then lose the points?

They take the points when you book.  I've never had to cancel, so I'm not sure about the return points.

When I used to use that card regularly it would allow me to redeem points for a statement credit on certain hotels after I booked and paid for them on my card. But it’s been a couple years.

This is always how I've done it.  Just statement credit.
