Luggage forward and air tags

We will use Luggage Forward in January from San Diego to Capetown. Can we use Apple AirTags? They are lithium batteries. When I emailed Luggage Forward they said they are not allowed but all airlines accept them now. Has anyone had experience with this?

We have used Luggage Free and they allow airtags.

The FAA officially confirmed to The Points Guy that AirTags are safe and legal to be placed in checked luggage. "Luggage tracking devices powered by lithium metal cells that have 0.3 grams or less of lithium can be used on checked baggage," the FAA said. "Apple AirTags meet this threshold; other luggage tracking devices may not.

I called Luggage Free last week re: one-way Dallas to Rome.  They do not allow AirTags on international destinations.  They were also about $50 more expensive than Luggage Forward.  With Luggage Forward you can book a shipment to a cruise line online; with Luggage Free, you have to call them. Luggage Free had at all kinds of add-on charges, where as Luggage Forward had one simple charge.  Luggage Forward confirmed they do not allow AirTags either, stating that is a term of their contract with the actual shippers.

Air tags are powered by a typical watch battery.  There is no logical reason for this company to prohibit them based on the battery type - it's a CR2032.  Would they also prevent you from packing a watch?

I think they don't want competitors tracking/identifying their logistics.  Airlines are totally fine with it.

It is 100% so you cant call them out for telling porkies when you know where your bag is and they tell you something completely different. You are correct. the battery in them is harmless as far of potential lithium battery dangers. Got 12 of the little buggers now! Handy for all sorts - keys, wallet, car, luggage etc etc
