In room safes

I understand to access the in room safes, you use a credit card as the "key". I have read that any card with a magnetic strip will work. Is this true? Has anyone used something else? My husband wants to bring like a used gift card or store discount card to use instead of using the credit card to prevent something happening to it (demagnetizing).

I don't think you need to do a magnetized card, unless something drastically changed.

 

In the past, all you had to do was put in a 4-digit code to lock and unlock the safe.

 

Anyone have newer info?

Most of the now have the 4 digit code and if you leave the door open for an extended period of time it will reset.

 

However, if for some reason you have one of the older safes any card with a magnetic strip will work, we actuallyl used our AAA card on one trip, for the same reason as you alluded to

I have read that your library card, grocery card, etc. will also work. I understand about his not wanting to use his credit card.

I think I remember that you have to "un-lock" the safe using the same card you used to "lock" it. Just swipe it to lock and swipe it to unlock but with the same card. Although never tried my credit card :)

Just got off AOS March 12, and we had the programmable safe. If we left it open too long, the close/lock button wouldn't work until we re-entered our code and hit lock again.

grandeur still has the swipe card type safe as of 3/2/06.

Just use your S&S card.

 

This way if you loose it you can get another at the pursers desk.

Just got off the Splendour of the Sea, March 13-18. They do not have the programble safes. You need some type of magnetic card.
