Is each level a different category?

No, they are not synonomous. Go to Celebrity.com, ships, and check the deck plans for the particular ship.

I can see why it is confusing to you, however. In general the lowest category cabins, 12, will be on the lowest deck, also 11s. 10 gets you to the level of guest relations. Cat 9 gets you an inside on the top most deck, usually. Then on the outside cabins, depending on the ship, an 8 might be an obstructed view (on Zenith, for instance) but is high in the ship.

The categories are price differences, and in general a lower number (a higher category) means a better location.

But not always. For instance, some of the concierge cabins are way forward and to me not as desireable. It's a matter of personal preference.

A difference in category means a difference in price. In many cases there is no difference between cabins that are in different categories except the location on the ship. There may be 4 categories of inside cabins all of which are identical in size, amenities, etc. The only difference will be the location of the cabin with the cheaper cabins being on a lower deck and/or closer to either end of the ship and the more expensive cabins being on a higher deck. There really is no conection to category and the deck the cabin is located on. For example, the cheapest category of oceanview cabin will be a higher category the most expensive category of inside cabin. However, this oceanview cabin will likely be on a lower deck than that inside cabin.

Not seen any mention of issues of having a cabin above the theate

We had a terrible noise pollution experience on a past cruise, not X and since then never book a room above one.

Anyone else had this experience?
