When is it too late to purchase insurance?

Recommended Posts

We've already made our final payment on the cruise and it's in 3 weeks.  I thought the travel agency had added insurance to our reservation, but it's no longer on there.  Is it too late to purchase insurance?

Some plans do offer post-departure benefits which can be purchased last minute - e.g., single-trip medical, evacuation memberships, and accidental death & dismemberment plans.  However, you will not be eligible for the maximum amount of benefits.  We advise not to wait when purchasing travel insurance (ideally a plan should be purchased right after putting money down on a trip) - in order to qualify for time-sensitive benefits like Cancel for Any Reason, or a pre-existing condition waiver.  Also, if you purchase a plan after a storm is known and that storm impacts your travel plans - you will not be covered.
