Walking into Brest from the ship?

We have a stop in Brest this fall and have booked an excursion that will return us to the ship with about 90 minutes of free time. From looking at maps online it seems that cruise ships dock at a fairly industrial port. Does anyone know if it is possible and/or safe to walk into Brest from there? And if not, is there a shuttle that runs frequently?

You have to take a shuttle to get out of the port. They won’t let you walk. We were on a Princess ship and  they provided a shuttle to town with 3 stops. Not sure of all the stops as we got off and on at the visitors center. I did hear passengers having trouble with the buses picking them up from the other 2  stops.

They have shops and restaurants just outside the port but we were there on a transatlantic and they weren’t open for the season yet. I imagine one of the shuttle stops would be just outside the port. The city center was about 15 minutes away. Not really walkable.
