been to Funchal many times on a cruise and stayed 2 weeks in a hotel many years ago. Walk from cruise ship into centre of town about 30 mins, we then walked through town to the cable car and went to Monte. Funchal is easy walking provided you are fit. Monte the gardens are delightful. When we stayed many years ago did 2 Lavada walks, ok walking but over hyped.
