texas#1mom Posted June 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Tomorrow's our cruise on the Elation and it looks like #*&!@ in the Gulf of Mexico. What are the odds of Carnival changing destinations and going east rather than southwest? We're scheduled for Progresso, Cozumel and Belize and it looks like it may be rough sailing! We've checked out the weather channel...yikes!
Knights on the Beach Posted June 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Looking at where the Elation is sailing from, I doubt the Eastern Caribbean would be an option, if that's what you mean. It may be possible for the captain to change course and visit the ports in a different order, although that is unlikely to happen unless there is a threat of very severe weather. Don't lose hope, though. We were on the Glory May 22 and when I checked the weather report right before our cruise, it looked like we'd have rain in nearly every port. The weather was beautiful the entire week; it couldn't have been better! Beth ~~~~~~~~~~~ Countdown to Glory Emerald Seas 6/86 Emerald Seas 11/87 S.S. CruiseFever Posted June 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2004 They will not floor it and try to smash through the storm. If there is any danger of weather being an issue they will divert to an alternate route. I'm not sure where that would make you end up but I've been of the impression that Carnival will re-route to as good or better destination, maybe more time in one port, maybe an onboard credit. Actually, if the weather you are looking at is indicating rain, as noted above, that's really no reason to chance itineraries. If its a tropical storm you're staring down the throat of you can bet they'll high tail it out of there. izzyvet Posted June 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2004 I just checked out weather.com and it looks like the ten day forcast for all those ports is pretty good. Should be 90-95 degrees in each port with a 30-50% chance of scattered thunderstorms. Very similar to the weather pattern on our Western Caribbean cruise a few weeks ago. Our weather was fabulous. You could see storms around us, but very scattered and when it did rain, it was for about 15 minutes. Cruising89143 Posted June 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Hopefully things will work out for you. I have had to have a couple of cruises rerouted due to storms. The bad thing about leaving from NOLA and the Texas area is no place to really go for the cruise lines in case of a TS or hurricane. Maybe Vera Cruz but from everything I have read this is not a place that is ready for the ships.
