CGAGE Posted June 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Has anyone ever had to get their documents changed after receiving them? My daughter's name was mis-spelled...I'm not sure how we missed it on the invoice when we paid...but we obviously caught it as we were doing our Doc dance!!! We booked our cruise within 60 days of departure, so we had to make a full payment upon booking. I called our travel agent and they said Carnival imposes a change fee after final Docs are issued and that we HAD to have them changed. It costs us $75.00 to do this and we have to pick up our NEW documents at the Pier when we embark. I take responsibility for not seeing the error, I just thought the fee was a bit steep. I guess I just needed to vent...I welcome any suggestions from you to get over this. TiaGr Posted June 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2004 I would call Carnival direct just to make sure they really do charge. Was it just a single letter wrong? I know they charge if you want to change the name completly but, if its just one or two letters I would call them. 7,25,04 Inspiration Sailing
cruzn_soon Posted June 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2004 This post is another reason why I'm not taking the word of my PVP at Carnival that it doesn't matter that my daughter is listed as a "Mstr" instead of a "Miss". I have asked twice before now to have it changed. Was told it was really no big deal. I found that hard to believe, but relented. Until today when there have 2 posts regarding changes to names on the docs and charges being imposed. Another email has been sent and if the change is not made on the docs, I will be sure to print the emails and take them with me for check in. I think it's one thing when there is a misspelling and another when the name change is due to a totally different passenger going. $75.00 is a little extreme making a correction. There is not $75.00 worth of manpower used on the change. It's done in a computer system.. Probably auto printed and stuffed into an envelope by machinery. That's a good little profit though.. CGAGE Posted June 14, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted June 14, 2004 I'm not 100% positive we paid $75.00...it was either $50.00 or $75.00. I'm going to call Costco Travel tomorrow to confirm what we paid and see if there is anything that can be done about it. I just got off the phone with Carnival and the rep told me the change fee is $50.00. So either Costco only charged us $50, or they did charge us $75 and made a little profit. Like I said...I'll call them tomorrow to confirm and I'll update the post. Travelitis Posted June 14, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 14, 2004 If the name is the same just mispelled, it shouldn't need to be changed. Even after 9-11 when I was doing check-in for international flights, we let minor misspellings go. For instance, Gayla when it should've been Gayle was fine. Karren instead of Karen was no problem. Prefixes were of absolutely no importance still. I would check to see this was absolutely necessary, and if it wasn't, your PVP should eat the cost. Cotton Posted June 14, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 14, 2004 I think this is a trivial matter. I have flown AND cruised where my paperwork listed me as MR. and also misspelled my first name. (And yes, since 9/11.) Neither was a problem. I didn't mention it, and neither did anybody at the airline or ship. All my ID was in order, and if anybody DID see a difference, they could SEE I'm female, and everybody realizes that TYPOS do occur. I think y'all are really sweatin' the small stuff unnecessarily. I also think perhaps that agency may have their OWN policy as far as name changes, and I can see it IF there's a whole new PERSON being changed...but not simple typos. $75 I would question. iluvdoxies Posted June 14, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Before I started using my pvp at CCL, I used an oline agrncy and the docs came with a minor spelling error for our last name. I called Carnival and it was ok in their system/ We could have had it changed for 35.00 (at that time) or just let it go. So we didnt pay 35.00 to change it and we had no problems. serene56 Posted June 14, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 14, 2004 i can understand paying that hefty fee if you are changing names of a whole cruiser...example is sopmeone cant go but you found someone to take theirplace but to charge that amount just to change a spelling of a name is a little bit high. woodman Posted June 14, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 14, 2004 One more reason I am booking all my cruises directly through Carnival PVP's. If they misspell my name it will be up to them to change it or accept it the way it is. So far I am very happy with them and have not been able to match their price anywhere. Happy cruising. CGAGE Posted June 14, 2004 Author #13 Share Posted June 14, 2004 I double checked and we paid $50.00 for the change. I happened to bring it up to the TA and she insisted we change it...I guess I didn't really feel like we had a choice at that point. I should've just kept my mouth shut I guess!!! Live and learn!!! Should I go to battle with Costco, or Carnival directly? I have a hunch that not much is going to get done about it! Oh well...any suggestions on a solution would be appreciated! Rare finoky Posted June 14, 2004 #14 Share Posted June 14, 2004 While you may have a bad taste in your mouth about it, and I know all about the principal of the matter, but my advice is to just let it go. It's only $50 and will only add undue stress just when you should be experiencing great anticipation about your upcoming cruise. cruise77 Posted June 14, 2004 #15 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Hi, I just changed the spelling of a clients name after the doc's arrived, it cost the client nothing, and they didn't get new doc's just changed the name on the manfest that also included air. I think I would check that out.
PokrChick Posted June 14, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 14, 2004 I had the same problem and the TA refused to credit back the charge. HOWEVER, I called Carnival, insisted on speaking with a supervisor, who ultimately called the TA and made them credit back the fee. But like carnivalcruisejunkie said, it may not be worth the aggrevation!
FnyFACEnAL Posted June 14, 2004 #17 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Always have your TA fax you (or mail you) a copy of the confirmation when you make your reservation. Check the confirmation. I just noticed that mine is not showing my past cruiser numbers. Happy Sailing!
ehschief Posted June 14, 2004 #18 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Last year my husbands name was mispelled and didn't match his passport, the TA changed it for free, no questions asked. I would question it, $50. or $75. is a lot of money for something that is so trivial.
imsulin Posted June 14, 2004 #19 Share Posted June 14, 2004 It's a $50.00 fee, and it's mainly for substituting one passenger's name for another right before cruising, if the original passenger can't go.
cruizintexas Posted June 14, 2004 #20 Share Posted June 14, 2004 I booked through Carnival for the 10/03/04 Elation cruise. My brother in law and sister in law booked before us. Her name is Jennifer Hughes and my name is Jennifer Hughes. Hello. Talk about confusion... I do not go by Jennifer but, it is my first name. Carnival put me in their system as Jenniferpaige -- hopefully we will not have any charges at the dock! Looking forward to our cruise..... 10/03 Carnival Elation!! Can't wait..... theos on the go Posted June 14, 2004 #21 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Our last name was misspelled on our documents. We notified Carnival and they told us to notify our TA to change it and to fill out the Fun Pass with our last name spelled correctly. Which we did and we had no problems and no charges. It just seems a shame that you have to pay for someone else's error. Good Luck! CGAGE Posted June 17, 2004 Author #24 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Thanks for everyones input and thoughts. I think I ultimately agree with carnivalcruisejunkie...the most important thing is that we'll be with our entire family celebrating my in-laws 80th birthdays! How many people get to do that...and on cruise ship to boot! Again...Thanks to all of you...this board has a way of grounding me and I need it sometimes! Happy Cruising to all!
