Rare pierces Posted April 15 #1 Share Posted April 15 Pictures taken between Monday, April 15 and Sunday, April 21. No spectacular natural phenomena this week. Go find something interesting or just plain pretty and share a picture of it. Rules: See above That's it. This isn't a contest. All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising). Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize. The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays. Post one. Post many. Up to you. Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

Rare pierces Posted April 23 Author #3 Share Posted April 23 Where did I find a martini in such a cool glass you ask? I found it in a regular everyday martini glass and took a photo of it from an unusual point of view. Composition “rules” should be called something other than “rules”. Basic guidelines like keeping the horizon straight or The Rule (Guideline?) of Thirds can help one get past taking snapshots but calling them “rules” can be stifling. Personal vision doesn’t always play by the rules. Inspiration for this shot came from realizing that I had access to an ultrawide lens on a very thin camera (ok, phone) able to get low enough to exploit the distortion and wide depth of field that these lenses are blessed and cursed with. The answer to your unasked question is yes, alcohol may have been involved. A Matter of Perspective Dave

zackiedawg Posted May 2 #5 Share Posted May 2 Another weekend outing at the local wetlands on this Saturday - we're in our active season with wintering birds plus early migrating birds passing through, plus this is nesting season in the wetlands with dozens of species either tending or building nests, incubating eggs, or feeding new chicks. Some selections from the afternoon outing: Red-shouldered hawk stretching a wing and a leg: Anhinga with a fresh fish catch: Male wood duck in full breeding plumage - one of the most glorious ducks to see: The female wood duck is not quite as ornate - still pretty in a much more muted way:
