Nextel cell phone in Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Check the website under "international travel" or something like that. It will tell you what countries have service and what the per minute charge is. Also remember that you have to actually activate the international service by contacting Nextel and telling them when and where you are going. I have Nextel and went to San Juan last September, I had a beautiful 5 bars of service and was unable to use the phone because I had not activated the service.

We don't have Nextel, but different areas of Mexico are tricky. My daughter just returned from Spring break on the West Coast of Mexico. We thought we worked everything out ahead of time and activated the International Service and they told us her phone was compatible with the service towers there but when she got there, her phone still didn't work. Fortunately she was able to send and receive text messages and that's how we kept in touch.
