Sailing to Alaska Sept. and we are looking for some suggestions for a pre stay hotel at the Vancouver port as well as a hotel for a post stay 3 days after our week cruise.

Same location for both is best, as we have the pier slap bang downtown where most of our poipular attractions also live! Even some out of towners run shuttles - which pick up at the pier...

With 4 days total, honestly there's not a single badly located downtown core hotel - if you are closer to Stanley Park, you're further from Chinatown, so as long as you spread yourselves around for sightseeing it all ends up being a wash. Theres also no such thing as a hotel that doesn't have tonnes of restos nearby, a pharmacy etc. So really it comes down to a) what you're willing to pay; and b) what you absolutely have to have in your hotel room.

If you demand a room with a view of mountains, cruise ships, or both then it's hard to avoid blowing big wads of cash unless you get lucky and Blue Horizon hasn't sold out already for your dates - but if all you need is a comfy room in a safe hotel, check availability at the YWCA Hotel and book it right now if they have a room, because it will sell out... nowhere else in the region offers better value, even airport hotels which add an hour plus a day in travel time usually cost as much or more, and it's also one of the better-reviewed hotels at ANY pricepoint!

Looks of excellent hotels in downtown Vancouver.

All the standard high end brands are in downtown Vancouver. There are some very nice hotels within a block of the cruise ship terminal.

The Sandman hotel chain is a Canadian chain based out of Vancouver with two downtown hotels.  Not close to the terminal but still very convenient.  (If you stay with them sing up for the loyalty program, if you have a high end Visa you can automatically get their upgraded status).

martincat has some great suggestions for some of the independents.

If your looking for a "low cost" hotel, the Days Inn on West Pender tends to have relatively low cost rooms.  It is a 100+ year old hotel, so no parking, the view can be marginal and the rooms small.  The complimentary breakfast is what you expect from the brand.   Low cost is subjective in Vancouver.

I write to you from the Marriott Pinnacle Downtown. We stayed 3 nights pre-cruise and are here 1 more night post cruise. Good location for sure.

Another vote for the Marriott Pinnacle Downtown. When I was there last year, the rooms were still the old Marriott branding, but the location was great, the downstairs rennovated and a great location.

If you're a casino fan, we really liked The Douglas. The Casino has the JW Marriott on one side and The Douglas(also Marriott owned) on the other. It's definitely a bit more "sexy", but we loved the rooms, as well as the bar made fantastic cocktails.
