Hotel recommendations in Amsterdam and Basal for Viking Christmas Cruise

My sister and I are flying into AMS on Mon Dec 16th, spending one night before boarding Viking on Dec 17. Recommendations for a hotel and what to do during that time? 

 

Also would appreciate hotel recommendations for Basal, we'd be staying Christmas Eve in Basal and flying home from there.

Have not experienced it yet, but in November we are staying at the Movenpick Amsterdam, which should or could be right in front of where the river ship will dock.

 

Not all river ships dock here but our last Viking river ship did dock here.   It is not a guarantee.

 

Cannot help you in Basel as we have not stayed there.

 

Look at the Viking Pre and Post options and look at what hotels they are staying at and see if those rates agree with your budget.  This is what we do when looking for a hotel in a new city.
