Majesty Questions ???

Recommended Posts

I only have 32 more days and got my docs this past weekend :D I'm sooo---- excited! This will be my first cruise!

I've been reading all I can on these boards and just wanted to double check some things, Please let me know if i'm incorrect on anything.

1) Interior rooms do not have safes

2) Can get on board early go to dining room and try to request table for 2

3) Can order room service anytime

4) They have a movie theatre but currently aren't showing movies (thought I read this on previous review)

5) can ask for robes and may get lucky and get some

I'm sure I'll think of some more later. TIA for help.

I was on the majesty in September last year and (weather permitting) wil be on the Majesty again this year. Last year I had an inside (5029 if I remember correctly).

To answer your questions..

1) No.. our inside didn't have a safe.

2) On all four cruises I could get on board before/around lunch time. Long before official boarding times. I'm not sure how the waiting lists for small tables work but you can try. Altough dining with a large group can be fun aswel..

3) Never tried it but they say you can: 24 hours a day.

4) I'm not sure.. on vacation I'm not going to sit in a movie theatre myself.

5) You can always ask; some stateroom attendants are more into pleasing the guests than others (although in my opinion they all to there job well). On my last cruise (AOS) the Stateroom attandant (called: Buddy!) gave my girlfriend and me a pair of slippers with a personal note attached..

Was on the 3rd deck outside stateroon & there were no safes in these rooms either. When we sailed Majesty in Aug 2005 they had a movie playing every day at various hours. They were fairly recent although we did not spend any time there.

I will be sailing on the Majesty-5/12 and wanted to know if they have a formal night on the 3-day cruise. My husband doesn't own ANY suits at the moment. I'm looking forward to eating in the dining room so what to get this taken care of ASAP if he needs one.

Thanks

I am on the same sailing as you. Yes, there is a formal night on the Majesty, it is the second evening. I have never taken such a short cruise before but what I heard, alot of the passengers do not dress as formally as they do on the longer cruises. I personally always carry my suit no matter what the length of the cruise will be. Formal night is part of the cruising experience

Thank you for the reply!

Well I'm off to the store for my man's suit. There is no way I'm missing out on everything the cruise experience has to offer. Even though this ship has mixed reviews I plan to keep an open mind and enjoy myself no matter.

I could be home with my children (who I love dearly) doing some horrible house-cleaning chore.

I hope you find that you enjoy the Majesty as much as we do. She's actually one of our favorite ships. Although she doesn't have the bells and whistles of the more modern ships, there's 'something' about her. The crew/staff are wonderful, and many have been together a long time, and work extremely well together. We watched our favorite Assistant Waiter work up in the ranks to Maitre 'D.....We try and sail her 3 or 4 times a year.....

We have sailed on her about every January for the last few years. Most of your questions have been answered correctly but I need to mention that they were taking out the Movie Theater out of Majesty while we were cruising last January right before she went into a short dry-dock.:p

NOOOO, say it ain't so....I hope they didn't take out the theater. My DD will be so disappointed! The RCCL site says that there is one still on the ship. Oh-well, guess we'll just have to wait and see. I really don't think she'll miss it if it's not there though;)!

I just got off Majesty on Monday, so hopefully I can answer some questions!!

1) Interior rooms do not have safes - CORRECT. We were in an outside cabin, no safe's there either.

2) Can get on board early go to dining room and try to request table for 2 - CORRECT! We actually called ahead and requested a table for 2, but didn't check when we got onboard. At dinner the first night, we were seated at a 6 person table, but none of the tablemates joined us any of the 3 nights - FINE BY ME :), because we're quiet, shy people.

3) Can order room service anytime - Not the first night, or after 3 a.m. the day of disembarking, but anytime in between (and, it's speedy and always tasty - we took advantage! But don't forget the tip!)

4) They have a movie theatre but currently aren't showing movies (thought I read this on previous review) - There may be a theater, but it's no longer showing movies. They do run movies continuously in the rooms - I think throughout the cruise, we ended up watching Pride and Prejudice, Walk the Line, The Greatest Game Ever Played, ShopGirl, and Elizabethtown (bits and pieces, but I think we caught most of all of them :p !).

5) can ask for robes and may get lucky and get some - CORRECT, but they are first come first serve.

We had a fabulous time! Our steward, Javier, was great, and our waiter/asst, Chad and Sergei, were fabulous as well! Would not hesitate to sail again :) . Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks everyone for the help!!:)

Lorasmom - I do have a few questions for you

- did you feel like it was too short of a trip, or did you get to do all the things you were hoping for?

- What shore excursions did you do - how were they?

- How was the weather? Water temp?

- Where was your favorite place on the ship?

- Did you fly in that day or a day early? If early did you stay in Miami and did you do any tours or anything there?

I'm so excited! We are also quiet shy people so I hope to get on early and get that table for 2. I think we're going to try the dining room as well as the buffet for dinner - see which we like better.

- did you feel like it was too short of a trip, or did you get to do all the things you were hoping for? - I have 2 small girls that we didn't bring, so I personally thought it was just right. Not too long away, but plenty of time to feel like a break. I did do everything I wanted to, and had plenty of time to relax and laze around.

- What shore excursions did you do - how were they? - We did the kayaking in CocoCay, and the SeaWorld Explorer in Nassau. Both were very good - the guides were great at pointing out wildlife, and we felt they were both well worth the money. The SeaWorld Explorer was kind of a second choice for me, because we love snorkeling, but were afraid I wouldn't feel up to it (I'm 12 weeks pregnant, and have highs and lows all day!) - but it was a good alternative.

- How was the weather? Water temp? - Now, I'm biased, because I'm a Florida girl, and I think anything below 75 is sweater weather  , but it was beautiful - a wee bit chilly, because it was breezy, but that was only right on the water, and only because a cold front had just breezed through. The water - we felt it was too cold for us, but again, we're from Florida, and big wimps! There were tons of people in the water, and they all looked like they were enjoying themselves.

- Where was your favorite place on the ship? - I don't know if I have a favorite, the whole ship was great! We loved eating a snack in the Windjammer - we always found a spot right up against the front glass, and it was always a great view. We loved the promedade on deck 7. We loved our room - mid ship on deck 4, oceanview.

- Did you fly in that day or a day early? If early did you stay in Miami and did you do any tours or anything there? - We live in Tampa, about 4 hours outside of Miami, and left the girls with my in-laws in Miama, so we left very, very early Friday (around 4:30!), got them settled and unpacked, made a last minute stop at Target (forgot the toothbrushes!!), and were on the ship having lunch in Windjammer by 1. Sorry I can't be of more help here! Now, personally, I don't really care for Miami - but there are parts that are worth seeing, and I think an excursion would be a great alternative to trying to get around yourselves :o .

Thank you Lorasmom for that update! I'm so excited about my first cruise that I'm starting to get on my own nerves. If you wouldn't mind answering a few additional questions. Thank you in advance

Did you take the 3 or 4 day?

Did you miss any of the ports due to weather? I'm desperate to visit Cocobay!

I'm a huge water freak and would like to swim on the ship. I would sleep in a pool if you let me. Do the pools have hours of operation?

What was the dress code like during the formal dinner?

Was there anything you would have done differently?

Any newibe tips for this particular ship?

Do you remember when your cruise docs arrived? The waiting is killing me!

We were on the Majesty from 3/20-3/24. It was my first cruise and i absolutley enjoyed everything. My girlfriend and I were on deck 6 and WE DID HAVE A SAFE in our interior stateroom. For our first cruise we thought the four night cruise was just right. Of course when it ended we wanted to stay longer :D . Our formal night was when we embarked in Nassau, which was the 2nd dinner.

The dress code for casual nights (every other night) varied between every table. The ship suggests polos for gentlemen and sundresses or dress pants for ladies. People would dress up or down as they pleased on the ship and noone seemed to care. The only problem is that you should not wander around the ship in only your bathing suit, as a lot of younger people did. For formal night they suggest suits or tuxes and cocktail dresses. A lot of people wore their old "prom" style dresses.

The weather was wonderful. We're from Maryland so we weren't used to the humidity yet, but Nassau was high 82 and only a few clouds in the sky. We went to Nassau beach hotel on cable beach and used their resources. Noone seemed to care that we were there. There was a bar with food and drinks as well as jet ski rentals.

For coco cay we also had wonderful weather. Coco cay was the best part of our trip. We did Kayaking and snorkeling. However, we bought our own snorkel gear before we went because we didn't trust how they wash their equipment. We did rent the vest and the flippers for under $20 i believe. There's a huge BBQ on the island so you don't have to worry about going back on the boat. THe only problem is that we tendered at coco cay around 8:30 and the last tender left the island at 3:30. I wish our stay was longer there.

Key west we did all the tourest-y things. Visit the most southern point, Rt 1 marker, Key lime factory. However there are places to rent jet skis and parasailing booths everywhere. It was extemely hot in Key west, and Duval St. was crowded, but it was also a good experience. i would suggest taking a trolly down to the southern most point, because we walked and it was a hike!

Being from Maryland the water was just right. It was cold when u first touched it (at nassau, and coco cay) but once you're in, it was a cool relief from the hot sun.

I would suggest that if you think you would be tempted into buying a lot of professional pictures (as we were), then i wouldn't take any. We bought around $100 worth without realizing. However the pictures are great.

Other than the bars, our favorite place on the ship was deck 7, where all the Muster stations are, just because it's a quiet area to view the ship sail at night, or anytime, without a lot of disturbances. Its not a pretty deck but if you want quiet then i would suggest going there. Of course we also liked to view the ship leaving from the pool deck. Also, save room for the 2 midnight buffets, one on the pool deck and the other chocolate buffet. Of course you can eat whenever through room service and at the Mast/sport bar.

If anyone has any more questions feel free to ask!! :p

Did you take the 3 or 4 day? - We took the 3 day - easiest for my in-laws to watch the kiddies!

Did you miss any of the ports due to weather? I'm desperate to visit Cocobay! - We made both stops, CocoCay and Nassau. Honestly, we were a bit worried that we may not be able to stop at CocoCay, because the water the night before was ROUGH - we were rocking and rolling a little bit! But, when we woke up, it was beautiful and smooth as glass.

I'm a huge water freak and would like to swim on the ship. I would sleep in a pool if you let me. Do the pools have hours of operation? - We did not use either pool, but everytime we were around (all hours, from 6 a.m., as late as 11 p.m.) at least one of the pools were full.

What was the dress code like during the formal dinner? - We skipped the formal dinner. It was the night we stopped in CocoCay, and I had worn myself out (first trimester ickies), so we ordered room service and stayed in. Sorry!

Was there anything you would have done differently? - Nothing at all - I did a lot of planning ahead of time, here and all around the web. We did everything we wanted, and had a great time.

Any newibe tips for this particular ship? - The ship is VERY easy to navigate - every time you get into an elevator, a nice voice tells you if you are going up or down; there are pictures in the elevator showing what deck the casino, windjammer, purser, etc., are on. There are 3D maps of the ship at every elevator. It's, literally, impossible to get lost :) - which is good, because I can't navigate for the life of me!

Do you remember when your cruise docs arrived? The waiting is killing me! - We chose to print them online, and they were ready about 30 days before we sailed.

You'll have a great time!!!

Oh I hope so.....

Sounds so wonderful!! I can not wait!

We sail July 3!!

Can you use a vest on Coco Cay if you have your own snorkel equipment or do you have to pay?? Disney always let us use the vests free on Castaway Cay. I can't wait too see how the Islands compare.

Yea, i believe the price was $17 for the flippers and the vest which was mandatory to snorkel, we used our own mask and snorkel...Be sure to wear sunscreen tho on your back, as people tend to burn quite quickly down there...have a great time! let us know how it is!!!
