Rental Car MIA to Port Everglades?

We will be taking a cruise out of Port Everglades in Feb 2025 and will arrive the day before in Miami. Thinking of renting a car for the 4 of us at Miami Airport and dropping it off at the port. Any recommendations or caveats? Can you drive right to the port terminal to drop off luggage and folks before returning the car? Which rental agencies are closest?  Do they offer complimentary shuttle between rental car office and cruise terminal?

There is no free shuttle service from FLL to Port Everglades. That service was discontinued pre Covid and never resumed. You can easily rent a vehicle at the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center and return it on embarkation day at FLL. I normally drive over to Port Everglades and drop off my family and luggage at the Port Terminal. I return the rental vehicle at FLL and walk outside near the Arrivals area. A cab normally costs between fifteen and twenty dollars plus tip. The entire process takes less than an hour.

You could also take Tri-Rail from Miami International Airport to the Fort Lauderdale Airport station which is close to Port Everglades. There are many hotels in that area as well if you're spending the night.

 

If you're spending the night in the downtown Miami area, you could take a Brightline train from MiamiCentral station to Fort Lauderdale station.
