Istanbul bosphorus cruise

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are considering a cruise of the Bosphorus straight while overnighting in Istanbul We are wondering if anyone has done this.  Specifically, we are wondering rather it would be better to do it during the day or in the evening (hopefully that would be at sunset).  If anyone has done this cruise we would be interested in your thoughts on it, including the good or bad on any of the private cruise operators.  Thank you in advance!!  And Happy cruising!!

We took a cruise down the Bosphorus with a stop on both the European and Asian sides through a shore excursion on Regent. This may not be the same type of activity you are considering. The boat used put out so much fumes that it made us feel sick and we had to stand outside to be tolerable. Although it was interesting to see the various buildings along the shore, we found it somewhat boring after a while plus the fumes were noxious. If you are on a better vessel with a good guide then you may have a good experience.

We did an evening dinner cruise and a daytime cruise on the Bosphorus during three days in Istanbul on a Viking cruise last fall.  I would have to say they were highlights of our time there and of all our visits to Istanbul.

We were fortunate to be there during the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.  The port area as well as sites along the Bosphorus were well decorated for all the events taking place.

Day and evening cruises each have their obvious advantages.  We did both, so didn't have to choose one over the other.  Obviously sites along the shore are much more visible during the day.

Here are Viking's description of each cruise...
