zigzaggery Posted July 4 #1 Share Posted July 4 Sailing to Alaska on the Norwegian Bliss next month. In Ketchikan, what's the best way to get to a trailhead into the Tongass National Forest (preferably on foot)?
dfilpus Posted July 4 #2 Share Posted July 4 Look at the Ketchikan Trails guide. https://uploads.alaska.org/maps/ketchikantrailmaps.pdf Married Man’s and Schonbar trails are close to Creek Street. Rainbird trail is a little farther away. Deer Mountain trail head is farther yet, but hikeable. Other trail heads probably need a shuttle or taxi.

It is about 7 miles to town.
sherryf Posted July 7 #4 Share Posted July 7 Tongass National Forest is huge and Ketchikan is within it. You can just walk from your ship to the nearest trees and you'll be in it. There are some hiking trails at nearby Ward Lake but you might need to take a taxi to get to them.
