Alaska Cruise with a mobility scooter

Recommended Posts

We are going May 2025 on Sapphire Princess on 7day from Vancouver to Whittier. My wife will have the need for a scooter. We are looking to stay in Vancouver 2 days prior to the cruise and then fly home from Anchorage. So we will be looking to rent one for the hotel visit and hope to be able to leave on the ship when cruise is over. I have heard about ScootAround and Special needs at sea. I am curious to anyone's experience with them.

Also looking for people experience in the ports of Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. She is able to walk on her own just not long distances anymore. She is able to do excursions and we will be doing a Dog sled in Skagway, Whale watching in Juneau and Deadliest catch tour in Ketchikan. We know she wont be able to bring scooter on the excursions more than likely. But wanted to know experiences around town for others.

It's been about ten years for us, but we used Special Needs at Sea. We flew into Anchorage, and the scooter was waiting for us at the hotel. We spent a couple of days in Anchorage before our land tour officially began. We took the scooter with us on the land tour then onto the ship in Whittier. Our cruise ended in Vancouver, where we left the scooter in our cabin for Special Needs to pick up. Everything went very smoothly.

Alaskan sidewalks are usually narrow and rough but DW has had no major issues navigating them in her scooter.  Been all over in those ports.  Ketchikan has a 2 story mall by the dock, hopefully, maybe the elevator is working!  Sometimes the funnest part is getting the scooter off and on the ship, gangways aren't always scooter friendly.
