johnnyremington Posted June 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Just wondering if anyone knows how much the cuban cigars go for in ports and if they ever tried to take them back to the U.S.? If so how and were there any problems. I know there illegal but im sure theres ways to get them back!
glrounds Posted June 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Johnny, Almost all ports have them, but must watch out for "almost" Cubans (cigars grown in other countries with Cuban seed). Believe it or not, Cuban cigars (cigars purchased from stores displaying the official Habana seal) are not that cheap. I'm assuming you understand that anyone selling cigars out of a box at a kiosk is not selling legitimate Cubans. No self-respecting cigar would be caught dead out of a humidor and walk-in humidors offer the best control of temperature and humidity. I bought a Monte Cristo #2 in Belize for my friend. I paid $12. Had the paper identifying ring taken off and had the clerk generate a receipt for a Churchill grown in the Dominican Republic. The Irony : I walked right off the ship using GLORY's "self assist" debarkation. My luggage or person was never checked for anything ! I didn't even have to prove who I was. I was just asked as I breezed by one of the security personal if I was an American. I could have taken off 5 boxes and paid for my cruise within a day here in California. Oh well. The saddest words of prose and pen, are the words, "What might have been" What I can't, for the life of me, understand is why we can't trade with Cuba, but China enjoys most-favored-nation status. I have no clue. Live well, love much, laugh often. Gary
