Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #178 Share Posted August 27 Our time in Fraser was brief. Just a few moments to stretch legs and take photos.
bonvoyagie Posted August 27 #179 Share Posted August 27 It been twelve years now since I took the train to Carcross with Chilcoot tours. Best excursion on that trip. We were on the Jewel last summer and found the breakfast service in Modernaro to be less than satisfactory. We happened to be sat at a table that each of the waiters thought the other one was handling. We complained to the concierge who was sitting at the bar, he stepped in and we soon had our food.

Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #181 Share Posted August 27 We are on the train! I am always prepared with sustenance so I asked dad if he wanted a chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookie. Dad said “small cookie.”🙄 He took the cookie and looked at it carefully then turned to me and said, “I think I saw one like this on the ship.” “Really?” I asked all innocently. Don’t @ me. The woman across from us on the bus had eggs from the ship. One of Alaska’s state velociraptors hitched a ride on the windowsill next to me. Dad asked, “are you going to let it live?” Reader, I let it live. The narrator on the train announced that the people trying to strike it rich faced unparalleled hardships. However, they don’t know true hardship: they did not have to help dad put his undies in the cruise ship laundry! The narrator stumbled over her words throughout the whole train ride to the point where it was unpleasant to hear then she came through each train car angling for tips while the other staff member announced that the first person enjoyed embroidery. Who cares??? No one tipped her. 6

Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #183 Share Posted August 27 Ready to hop back on board the Jewel at RR dock in Skagway In what can best be described as the Rumplestiltskin effect, the butler took the remaining cookies away and replaced them with cheese. Two people complimented me on the cheese tray on the way to the Palace for dinner. I took dad’s beer to take a photo and he looked around and asked, “who stole my beer?” Dinner was so so. I loved the cheese plate and the bruschetta. My gnocchi was super oily and I just won’t do that to my body. It isn’t supposed to look like this or have this oily consistency. My dad loved his soup, liked his fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp and did not like his Black Forest Cake. We both gobbled up the cheese plate from our butler and concierge today (it had a note from the concierge.) I did not enjoy the raspberry sorbet which had big chunks of ice in it and was not a sorbet at all. It was gritty with ice chunks like when the tour boats in Kenai fjord scoop up glacier ice and make glacier margaritas: they taste like dirt. Dad wanted to go to the Broadway Cabaret. We lasted 10 seconds and walked out. It was horrible singing and a horrible noise level. I’ve said this before but I prefer to leave a cruise with my hearing intact and I am not subjecting myself to unpleasant, dangerously loud music.
Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #184 Share Posted August 27 I don’t even know if I have already posted this. If so, it’s okay. Worth posting twice. Dad has a new favourite typo:

Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #187 Share Posted August 27 Skagway is such an accessible port for crew. I wish NCL would do crew drill in Ketchikan where few crew choose to get off the ship since NCL switched to Ward Cove vs Skagway where many crew want to go ashore. Crew welfare matters! Many crew could not go ashore today due to the crew drill.
Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #188 Share Posted August 27 I went to the bathroom near Azura tonight. Every soap dispenser except one was empty and the one that worked took many times to extract soap. Where is Soapy Smith when you need him? 8

Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #190 Share Posted August 27 Good morning from Icy Strait Point. I just love the clean air here so much! Guess what else I love? Bubbles on the balcony! Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #191 Share Posted August 27 When I got up this morning at 9:03am dad was already dressed and ready to go. “Do you know what time it is?” he asked, surprised that we both slept in so late. Moderno breakfast ended at 8:30am and the MDR breakfast ended at 8:30 so we went to the Garden Cafe. It was not busy since most people were already ashore. We docked at 6:00am! I ordered a small omelette with cheese, mushroom and tomato. When the omelette cook handed it to me I saw he had spilled ham chunkies over the top. I said I can’t eat ham so he picked the ham chunkies out and handed me the omelette where ham just sat. “Oh no no” I said. A replacement omelette was made. My dad took a bowl of sliced green apple and put scrambled egg on top. I don’t think he knew what he was doing and that looked so gross. He also made himself a British breakfast with baked beans, cooked tomato and bacon. My omelette was good as was the honeydew and mini croissant. We both enjoyed coffee with a splash of hooch from Great Outdoors. Dad said yum!
Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #192 Share Posted August 27 We headed ashore with a bag loaded with treats for Ben but he was in Juneau! @MamaToMany Our time in ISP began with a Gondola ride on the Transporter We didn’t have an excursion today because we didn’t need one. Icy Strait Point is known for excellent wildlife viewing. We were in for some treats:

Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #197 Share Posted August 27 How could I do this? I moved onto Icy Strait Point before posting THE END of the photos from Skagway! Rare YVRteacher Posted August 27 Author #199 Share Posted August 27 Icy Strait Point now has a DJ. Nothing says welcome to nature like the Village People at full blast. There are also marshmallows. We weren’t hungry for mini doughnuts today. Word on the ship is the salted caramel flavour is excellent. 8
