erin327 Posted September 23 #1 Share Posted September 23 If we do a private excursion with tours plaza, do they act as a tour guide at our stops or only drive from place to place?

They will interact as little or as much as you want in our experience. i think it is imperative you let them know what you require - do you want you want them to be close for support or on the other hand you want space so they will remain with you, at a distance. Many tourist locations provide hangouts for the taxi drivers. Sometimes we have invited them to have lunch with us to chat and other times we have dined alone. They have always been keen to answer questions when we have asked. Most places on Cozumel don’t actually require a “guide” but they will happily give a narrative while driving around. The ruins, although small may benefit from a guide and if you require one they will probably arrange one that is on site. I took a self-guided printout. They have escorted us into churches and around Punta Sur, the market. Edited September 23 by c-leg5
