martdm Posted April 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2006 Can someone who has been recently help me out with some info please? I'm just trying to verify how much cabfare would be from the port to the Port Lucaya Marketplace area. Also, any recommendations for a good place to get lunch there would be much appreciated as well! TIA!
Djptcp Posted April 4, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2006 DH and I were in Freeport in early March and went to the Port Lucaya Marketplace from the pier where the Celebration was docked. We took a large van taxi that cost $5 per person each way. It is my understanding that if you take a regular car taxi it costs $25 each way for 2 people. The vans wait until they are filled up, do don't be in a hurry. The Marketplace has so-so shopping and many little places to eat.......nothing fancy at all if you are looking for that. We stopped at one little outside bar to have a beer, but didn't eat. We saw menus posted on boards and the prices looked quite reasonable. Across the street from the Marketplace is the Isle of Capri Casino and we spent several hours there. The hotel there might have a restaurant or two. Sorry I can't give you any specific recommendations for places to eat. We caught another large van taxi right by the casino to return to the ship. Enjoy your cruise! We will be sailing on the Celebration again on April 27th and haven't decided yet what to do in Freeport. martdm Posted April 5, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted April 5, 2006 Thanks so much for all the info! Our plan is pretty much identical to what you did (go to PL, check out a few shops, make some donations at the casino, maybe some lunch if we find someplace that seems good). Your details are very helpful indeed!!!
