Concordia Sept. 3

Is anyone concerned about the fact that the Costa Concordia, at 116,000 GRT will apparently carry as many passengers as the Freedom of the Seas? Will the lower passenger/space ratio make the ship seem too crowded?

It is nice to see Carnival building new ships for Costa instead of continuing to fob off their older ships like the Tropicale.

Our very first cruise was on a Costa ship and it was responsible for getting us addicted to cruising.

Are you going to cruise on this ship with us??

We have cruised on mega-ships this size before on Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian. They have never seemed crowded. To me "crowded" is going to Disney world and waiting in line for admission, attractions, food, snacks, etc.

We are looking forward to meeting new friends from various parts of the world.

We don't have any plans to sail on this ship as yet but will be interested to read the early reviews from passengers.

I've also been on mega-ships of similar size but those ships carried approximately 600 to 1,000 fewer passengers than Costa indicates will be the normal passenger complement on Concordia. For example: Caribbean Princess which is approximately the same size as Concordia carries 600 fewer passengers, while the slightly larger Sapphire Princess, at 116,000 GRT carries about 1000 passengers fewer than Concordia. Voyager Class ships are 138,000 GRT and their passenger capacity is 3,114 (600 less than Concordia) and Freedom of the Seas will be approximately 160,000 GRT (48,000 GRT larger than Concordia and carry only 600 more passengers. Hopefully the designers have created a ship with traffic pattern that can handle those numbers without long lines.

We like to book our own daily adventures. Do you have any recommendations for Genoa, Barcelona, Mallorca, Tunis, Valletta, and Palermo? Guides to hire? We enjoy doing what the locals do and getting a true feel for each port of call. For example, last year we had a wonderful lunch in a small, family-owned restaurant on the Amalfi coastline. Best tomatoes and olives we have ever tasted!

Thanks for your help!

At last, someone else on Concordia. We've booked for New year. If this ship is as good as the others it will be great. We've cruised with costa 4 times and always enjoyed everything about it. Hope you'll like it too. Please let us know what you think of it.
