Disembarking question

I've read here that on the evening prior to disembarkation that we must have our luggage waiting outside our cabin door by 8pm. Does that mean every single piece of luggage? Even a small carry-on size? If so, what do you do with the toileties that are used that morning and your pajamas from the night before? I know this is a silly question, lol.

Whatever you don't need goes out into the hall. Keep a small carryon for your other items you do need.

Whatever you don't leave out by the door, you need to carry off the ship yourself. Just make sure you keep an outfit to wear, any medicine and toiletries, passport/ID, any valuables, and your carryon bag.

We always lock the bags that go out in the hall, but still never put any valuables in them, but save them for our carryon used for debarkation. Nancy

I believe it is usually midnight that the bags need to be out. That's the saddest part of the whole cruise - packing everything up. You know it's really over. :(

Just remember WHAT you save back from the luggage will be carried off the ship by yourself. If you have several 'things' such as booze-box and large purse and a small roll-aboard and a Mexican hat . it will become very difficult to manage this all yourself. You must carry everything yourself from the cabin to the disembarkation and then thru Immigrations and finally to picking up your luggage (there you may get a porter).

 

Secondly you will be dragging all this extra 'stuff' with you for a while that last day. Some ships request that you vacate your cabin by 8am or 9am so you may have to take these things to breakfast and then to the 'waiting area'. And the elevators are full of everyone else doing the same thing!

 

On top of that, remember that the airlines have a limit on the number of 'carryon' that you may bring on the plane. Granted some people keep a roll-aboard to take off the ship then actually check that on the plane.

They always say 8:00, but we usually put the last bag out sometime after midnight. Most of our bags are put out before going to dinner, but we like to go to a lounge and the casino after dinner. Then come back to the room and change.

What if we are doing a post-cruise stay and are not using Princess transfers - do we still leave all of our luggage outside our door? Won't we still have to take it off the ship ourselves?

Yes, put your bags out.

No, you don't have to carry them off. Some ships will allow you to, but why bother. Make the last day of your cruise more pleasant. Just walk off, find a porter, find your bags, go through customs, grab a cab, and tip the porter.

You pick it up on the dock to take it to the transportation of your choice be it private car, taxi or Princess transfer.

So put it in the hall the night before as usual.

On our last cruise, we were told to leave out the bags between 6 & 8pm. And the last day was a port day too so we had to do some quick packing around 6pm. When we were about to start putting out our luggage, we looked out our door and our neighbors on both sides took up all the space. But the crew was already picking up the bags so we just waited until space was cleared.

Thankyou all for responding. Setting your luggage outside of your stateroom door is only to keep you from having to carry it all off yourself - I thought it was so that customs could get all the luggage checked before disembarking. I didn't realize that I could keep a small carry-on in the room so that I could pack my toiletries and pj's away that morning, yay. Thanks for clarifying!!!

they have "self help" if that is what you mean

You must be able to carry all your own luggage off the ship but you are the first group to disembark.

Put nothing outside your cabin the night before...they will have a notice in the Patter a few days before docking so you can get the "self help" tags

We have done "self help" aka express disembarkation the last two cruises and loved it.. but then I am not a huge overpacker.. a large suitcase and tote whose handle will fit handle on the suitcase... when we are driving it gets us off to get on the road and we've been able to book earlier flights that were less expensive as well.
