chessbriar Posted May 2, 2006 Author #26 Share Posted May 2, 2006 Things not that promising, so we opted to grab a good cabin on the Explorer out of Bayonne. 12 night for Thanksgiving great price for a holiday cruise, so we grabbed a junior suite
Cathy Maneri Posted May 3, 2006 #27 Share Posted May 3, 2006 That Constellation itin out of Bayonne NJ is a nice itin. I've been to both Bermuda (Horizon) and all the ports in the Eastern/Western Carib they offer and it's a fabulous cruise. One I would fly from Miami to jump on that one. The other best Eastern Caribbean cruise is the 10-night Ultimate Southern Caribbean. Glad they kept that one as well. If you noticed, Celebrity changed around it's European itin. I have a feeling as soon as the new ships come out, THEY will be doing the caribbean (since they cannot fit through the old Panama Canal). This will free up some of the other ships to do other exotic ports. I would love to see a Hawaii/Tahiti cruise on Celebrity...a nice long one like Holland offers. chessbriar Posted May 3, 2006 Author #37 Share Posted May 3, 2006 I know we haven't had Mercury and Infinity announce yet, but they will likely be doing Austrailia and South America. The good, New 7 day sailing from San Juan, the addition of new ports in Columbia and Southern Caribbean, Keeping Connie on the 10/11 Caribbean runs The bad, fewer Panama Canal Sailings, very few Hawaii sailings (Hawaii overcrowded with 3 NCL ships, plus Carnival, RCCL, Princess and HAL), No Mexican Riviera, Century still doing short cruises and Zenith adding more short cruises. reklawr Posted May 3, 2006 #38 Share Posted May 3, 2006 Rick, Why are there fewer Celebrity Hawaii cruises for 2007 and 2008?
Andy Posted May 3, 2006 #39 Share Posted May 3, 2006 Hi Everyone ! I agree with Rick, that the Caribbean schedule is a huge disapointment, but as I have been saying for the past few weeks, pretty much expected. At least it is confirmed now. My take on the good and the bad : 1. As I have been saying for the past 2 weeks and now confirmed.... shortest Caribbean season I can ever recall. Many itineraries are 4 months or less, and do not start until mid-late December. Yikes. 2. Century : 4/5 nights sailings again. Very Expected, but still a big disappoinment to see it in print. This ship should be doing longer and more exciting itineraries. I am not against Celebrity doing shorter sailings, as clearly there is interest. But, this job should be for another ship. At the very least, they should have added at least a few longer sailings to Century's mix. <Yawn> 3. Millennium : Yes, new itineraries, and THREE of them, so I do give Celebrity credit for trying something new. However, they took the Casa De Campo slot from the San Juan sailings, and put more of them into Millennium's itineraries. Just what I hoped for.... THREE Casa De Campo sailings to choose from <LOL>. I also feel that none of the 3 itineraries are exciting. On the bright side, at least there are more itinerary choices. Of the 3 choices, the only one I like, is the first itinerary. 4. Summit : Back in the Caribbean (nice to see), but only for a few months. I agree they are probably getting squeezed out of Hawaii, but many cruise lines are having that problem thanks to NCL. But... Why San Juan ? That is always a tough sell as it is not easy to travel to, and airfares are typically high. Also, Celebrity has not done very well there in the past. I suppose this was done, as Celebrity has no 7 night sailings in the Caribbean from San Juan. On the bright side, it is a real nice itinerary, and it is only for a few months. Perhaps Celebrity is being cautious, and seeing if there will be any interest in the 7 night itinerary. With Crown Princess in San Juan, they will have a lot of competition. IMHO, Summit's deployment is a waste. Too much of a disappointment for a GREAT ship. If I was in charge of deployment, and I had known that Summit was available for a few months, this would have been a GREAT time, to let Summit do a 7/4/10 combination (or maybe Century's entire Caribbean schedule as is) out of Miami or Ft Lauderdale, and let Century do something else. How about Century doing a 10 night Caribbean, and partial transit Panama Canal that returns back to Florida, similiar to what Brilliance of the Seas does. Why cant Celebrity do something like this ? Where is the creativity ? Show me the love :) 5. Zenith : Actually, I like the 10/4 idea. I feel Celebrity should be doing much more of this. It gives passengers who want to try short and long sailings the opportunity to both sail on the same ship. Celebrity can capture 2 different types of passenger this way. 6. Constellation : I am very happy they kept the 10 night Ultimate Caribbean itinerary, as it is perfection. I do wish they would have done something else with the 11 night itinerary. I still feel it should have been broken down into shorter sailings, freeing Century to do other itineraries. It is a real shame, that Celebrity could not get more creative, and worked with the extremely short Caribbean season, and make it a beauty. For the most part (other than Summit back in the Caribbean) I feel a great deal more could have been done, and that is sad.
Andy Posted May 3, 2006 #40 Share Posted May 3, 2006 Hi Rick ! Thanks for all the information today. I had hoped it would have been more exciting, but I was expecting this news. It is fairly evident, that we have to wait until Solstice and Equinox come out, before we can expect any sort of radical changes. I would love to say I am a happy camper right now, but I am not. At least, the news is out.
Merrilymeggily Posted May 3, 2006 #41 Share Posted May 3, 2006 Thank you for all the information, Rick. It's making my head spin! So is it safe to say that there will be no 7-night Caribbean sailings out of Philly, Bayonne, New York, Norfolk or Baltimore on any X ship in June or July 2007? How about leaving from anywhere in Florida? We can't do Europe or any such "big" destination because of the size of our group and finances. So we either do 7 nights on Zenith from Bayonne or switch to another line. Harumpf. (Not that I mind Zenith. But we do have a load o' kids and teens in our group.) Sorry, no 7 night Summer Carribbean sailings anywhere for Celebrity. I know how you feel. We always like to Cruise in the Summer as well. Celebrity has been doing this for a couple of years now. We also wish they had a ship in the Caribbean in the Summer. We are probably going to book Caribbean Princess this Summer, but we would rather be sailing on Celebrity. Can you tell us exactly how that works ? :) They pull right up to the ocean and if you want to get of just jump. No need to tender. My guess is their system requires something be entered and they felt it was safer to enter docked than tender. Could you imagine people wanting to tender from the middle of the Ocean
Joe1690 Posted May 3, 2006 #45 Share Posted May 3, 2006 Well, the 2007 Carribbean itineraries aren't great but overall aren't terrible either. I like the fact that galaxy is coming back again to do 10/11 night cruises from San Juan. I love leaving from San Juan but as others have said it is a hard market to fill due to airlift capacity and air prices. I also agree that the Carribbean season is getting shorter but it seems that RCCL is doing the same thing with many of there ships spending close to 6 months in Europe. This is a good move for RCCL/Celebrity though because it will increase revenue because the Carribbean gets so crowded in the winter that yields are depressed while Europe offers much better yields and they probably make more on shore excursions as well. I am still amazed though that the Century is doing 4/5 day cruises considering it was completely revitalized. I can understand that new cruisers like a short cruise to test the waters but I am not sure why they couldn't have done a 10/4 night or 9/5 night cruises which would have appealed to both sets of clientele (existing and new). Also, I am extremely suprised that the Summit will be doing 7 night San Juan cruises as well. I mean they had trouble filling the Constellation last year and instead have decided to place 2 ships there next year. Makes no sense considering how many ships will be sailing from San Juan. It is good to hear though that the Zenith is not leaving the fleet in 2007 as some had rumored. And I am excited about the possibility of Celebrity going down under with the Mercury. MaryJean56 Posted May 3, 2006 #46 Share Posted May 3, 2006 I am very disappointed with this news. No Caribbean cruises out of the northeast for Celebrity. In the past few years I have really become attached to driving to a port and not having to fly. I haven't taken a cruise on any other line but Celebrity in the past 8 years, but next year I will. I have to say that I am a bit depressed by the thought. Since I am from MA, I sure don't want to drive to a port just to cruise to New England and Canada. Celebrity, please come back to the northeast!!!

chessbriar Posted May 3, 2006 Author #49 Share Posted May 3, 2006 I grabbed it now. The price was great from RCCL 12 nights for less than $90/pp/pd. It's a holiday cruise and out of NJ. Holiday cruises usually get some of the highest prices. Couldn't beat it. It's the Connie's itinerary minus St Lucia, but plus Dominica, San Juan, and Antigua. Andy Posted May 4, 2006 #50 Share Posted May 4, 2006 Hi Rick ! Celebrity already put pricing for the Summit Caribbean itineraries on their website tonight. That was pretty quick. Very cheap pricing too. As I mentioned earlier, they are going to have to be very competitive. I wish they could have had another plan for her, like the ideas I mentioned earlier today. :(
