grandsix Posted May 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2006 Would appreciate feedback from anyone who has stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rome on a pre cruise. Hotel Conditions? Is it an easy trip to the center of Rome? Any other help or recommendations would be appreciated.
Gitte Posted May 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2006 You need a taxi to the center or the Vatican. Gitte
psychboss Posted May 1, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2006 We have not stayed there but we stayed at the Hotel Canada in Rome 3 times and LOVED it! We were less than a block from the subway stop so you could get to most anywhere you want to go. Remember the subway in Rome only goes in a big X; other than that you need to take buses or cabs. Cabs are expensive so take the subway or buses whenever you can. Take train, subway or bus to the Termini (the main central station) and then you can transfer to wherever you want to go. The subway does NOT go to the Vatican, you can take a bus or walk.

Joanne G. Posted May 2, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 2, 2006 From the Crowne Plaza, we paid about 10 euros including tip for a taxi to the Vatican and to the Colloseum. (This was last summer.) There was a taxi stand in front of the hotel, so we didn't have a problem finding one. There didn't appear to be anything of interest in the area surrounding the hotel. It wasn't a bad area, just not a tourist area. We never looked into the subway or a bus, so I have no idea if either stops anywhere nearby. They have a free shuttle a couple times a day into town for sightseeing. The times never worked out for us, so we used taxis. They also have a free shuttle to and from the airport that runs several times a day. Hotel was nice. Rooms were big. Pool and grounds were attractive. Staff spoke English well. It looked like a typical mid-range American hotel - no particular Italian charm. The onsite restaurant was very expensive, but we found a charming restaurant within walking distance. (It was open for dinner only.)
