Pedicure glossy !!

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me what is it in getting a pedicure at a spa that makes the polish look like it stays wet ? Glossy!

No matter what polish I buy, it does not look like that!:(

Can anyone tell me?

Also what are your favorite nail poishes and why?

Thanks!

I don't know what they use for pedicures as I've never had one, but I use Maybelline Wet shine in Cherry Rain and I love it. It always looks shiny and bright and stays on my toes pretty well. I generally touch up the polish on my toes each week and take it off and repaint every two weeks...basically whenever it starts looking bad.

It's a top coat. Some have more shine than others. It's clear and there's tons of different brands. It not only makes your polish shinny but also makes it stay on longer. Just look for the bottle to say top coat. I always bring a bottle with me on vacation to keep my polish looking good. Every few days I apply a coat and almost good as new. Hope this helps.

They buff your nails until they are very smooth. Mine uses a buffing cream. It makes a huge difference in the finished product. Then the base coat is painted on...2 coats nail polish and finished with a clear top coat. Finish up sitting under a light for a few minutes to dry to a hard finish. Mine always end up glossy as a mirror and stay that way until the next time. I have a pedicure every other week. I think she uses Orly polish. Something in this process makes them very glossy. I am thinking that it must be the buffing that prepares the nail.

I really have no idea. :D

Great product, I'll have to try that one! Thanks

You make me giggle.. Tons of info followed with "I really have no idea!"

I too like those polishes, and where I get my nails done they use them too. BUT they still don't shine as well!

Thanks to you all for the replies. It would be fantastic if I could find a great top coat product at Sally's Beauty or somewhere that could compete with the shine factor! There has to be something! My nail lady just swears it's a "good product" but won't give any info.:(

No, I have never seen it, but you know that I am going to have to go and get me some. ;) It looks as though it is exactly what you are looking for. If I keep spending my money on all the stuff that you girls are suggesting here, I am not going to have any money left for the ship's casino. :D

Just found this. Has anyone tried this ? I would of course just go to the store and get it, not order it. I figure for the price, if it isn't any good oh well.

I was just about to post that I use a product in a silver bottle called "Mega Shine" and there it is!

It is great stuff...very shiney. It also has a way of "repairing" imperfections when you use it over existing polish that may be a few days old. Makes a pedicure/manicure go a lot further.

No kidding!!! I think at this rate I have spent more on "stuff" than I did on cruisefare!!!

Hubbie always says at night,"Are you going to watch this with me or talk on that thing all night long?" or

"What do the ladies have to say today?"

I keep buying and buying... hit reload on this page and then it happens again..

"OHHH I could use one of those!"

or

" Wow, that is a great idea, I'll do a search right now"

" Hey, at that price I'd better get it immediately!"

"Whoa, she says that is a great product, I'd better get some too!"

OR The big one ... " WOW, hunny come look at this! My shopping guilt is gone... some lady just spent $847 on eyeshadows!!!"

( Just kidding Linda, you have set me straight!)

Please give me a twelve step program!!!

Count me as one of the posters that has spent more $ based on this boards' recommendations....and the best part is that I LOVE everything I've gotten!

I've never had a pedicure, plan to get my first one on Saturday. I do have acrylic nails and do a pink/white on them and instead of putting a top coat on them, they put this gel-type top coat and then I put my hands under a UV light for 4 minutes to set the gel. It makes them so shiney and they stay that way until my next fill-which is usually close to 3 weeks for me.

Agree 100%.

I apply another coat of topcoat every few days also to keep my pedi looking like it was just done.

I use a clear top coat called, "Out The Door" which not only creates a great shine, it adds longevity to your mani or pedi and it dries your polish darn near instantly....really. I love the stuff. You can buy it at Sally's Beauty Supply or other places where they sell professional beauty products.

OPI is also a favorite product for me. I worked for years as a professional manicurist while putting myself through school. Their top coat is an excellent product. The one key factor to keeping that laquer shine is to dry each coat completely between, but especially the top coat. Any moisture or touch can dull the shine. It's essential to keep your hands dry for at least a hour after, no hand washing or handcream.

One other tip.... Don't be stingy when applying. Use a heavy bead of polish so that the strokes do not cause brush strokes. Use a three stroke technique and then stop.

A new drugstore polish I've come to appreciate as long wearing is Salley Hansen's "Beyond Perfect". It wears incredibly long without chipping or wearing off the edges.

On the buffing.... It certianly makes a difference. If you purchase a three part board with a chamoise on one side you can go au natural. Just be particular that you don't cause too much friction. If it feels hot stop. That can damage the tissue beneath the nailbed.

Great thread

I just had my first professional manicure and the polish started chipping the next day, as did my daughter's. I have friends who've had the same experience. I usually do my own nails and my manicures last much longer. What is the difference? Any ideas? I know I've narrowed my search down to the products that work best for me, but shouldn't a professional manicure last longer than one day? Should I "mention" this to the salon? Not ruining my life, or anything, just curious.

Also to OBnurse

I have never, in ten years, had a problem with chipping immediately with a professional manicure/pedicure. Try a different salon!!

That shouldn't happen from a professional manicure. I go to a cheapo $10. mani place and never had that problem.

It could it be that they didn't get all the cuticle oil and/or massaging creme off your nails before applying the polish.

And every three or four days, give yourself another coat and your manicure/pedicure will look brand new. It really IS awesome stuff, isn't it? Been on the market for years...I guess Sally Hansen just isn't that sexy of a brand. Who care, though, if it is sexy on your toes! LOL

I know you probably want me to move on about this product... BUUUUT...

I painted my toes quickly the first time just so I could see the product( Mega Shine) and see how shiny it was. I was , as I said, really impressed.

Now, I gave myself a real pedicure last night. You should see the effects now! I am tempted to take a pic of my tootsies...

They are sooooo shiny, just like when you get a real pedi! I will continue to do this myself, and use the salon for maintainence.

Also, supposedly it has a UV blocker so that your nail won't yellow when you have your french manicures. Bonus!:D

Just wanted to follow up... I will shut up now..;)
