What do you need cash for?

Recommended Posts

Trying to figure out how much cash to bring. Other than porter & room service tips, what else do you use cash for on the ship, casino? bingo? I don't want to pay any fees to get cash and want to bring enough to cover whatever I will need it for? I thought you just used the S&S card for everything including the slot machines but maybe they charge a fee? Thanks in advance. , leaving in just days and finishing up last minute chores like the bank!!

Don't forget for cash in the ports. Sure, you can use your credit card in stores, but what about the open air markets with vendors? No way would I give them my credit card.

You don't need cash for bingo. They have a line where you can put it right on your S&S card.

If you are flying, you'll need cash to get from the airport to the ship.....if you are parking at the pier you'll need cash for that.....also on the ship if you play bingo you can buy the card with cash or you can use your S&S card. We also gave our cabin people cash at the beginning of the week when we asked for an extra towel and robe! Tours if you get off the ship.....tips for the tour guides. And anything you might buy at port!

I like it for the casino, and my kids for the arcade

And don't forget there is a 3% charge if you use your ss card in the casino or the arcade

Yes that's the reason we bring cash to the casino (unless we run out:eek: )

Also it nice to bring cash for bingo that way you don't have to stand in the looooooong line to use your sail and sign card:eek:

Inserting your S&S card in a slot machine is for Ocean Player points. You still have to put cash in the machine.

There are plenty of cash necessary incidentals off the ship. We take $500.00 each in cash and bad times in the casino can eat that up in a hurry.

Oh, thanks so much! I forgot about spending money in ports and you are right, I would never use my credit card in Mexico!! Hmm, now to decide how much?

I totally agree with you for not wanting to use your credit card in Mexico. I was in Cozumel/Playa del Carmen area last year this time (land based vacation) and somehow an ATM machine had a way of retrieving the information from the magnetic strip of my debit card and ripped me off a pretty good amount of charges from Mexico all the way to Texas. My credit union, or course, reimbursed me for the fraud, but it was quite an inconvenience.

I realize it could happen anywhere, and it does, but I was extra careful not to use credit cards, and especially not my debit card, when I went to Mexico a few months later on my Elation cruise.

I used cash last time, and had a few hundred dollars in traveler's cheques that I cashed at the purser's desk the evening before we arrived in a new port. Seemed to work well, and gave me a little extra piece of mind.

Have fun....Mexico is absolutely beautfiul. Despite the ATM fraud, I'd still go back to Playa/Cozumel every year if I could! :)

Not anymore... you can put your card in the machine and transfer money from your S&S account... no cash needed... which is VERY dangerous! LMAO!!!! Got me in trouble in October, and I'm not even a gambler

Figure out how much cash you think you'll need, and double it :D

I needed $10 cash to use the curbside check in at the airport - this used to be free. You'll need a good bit of cash for things away from the ship, but onboard it is pretty much just casino and room service tips that take cash. You can charge just about everything else (even casino chips, for a fee)

You will spend more than you think. Baggage handlers, steward, casino, shore excursions, port shopping, pictures, maitre'd, and more.

There were two of us on a 7day...a little drinking, shore excursions, the casino and the jewelry that we all have to buy... we spent $1,500.00.

Enjoyed every dime!

We now got it to 500.00, that goes to Cab fare at the ports and bus transfer tips, Tips for porters and extra tips for the Waiters and Cabin stewards and gifts while in ports. We no longer play bingo nor play too much in the casino.
