Mariner Question & Rent A Car

We are traveling from So Cal to Orlando (sons graduation). We have decided on a combo trip...train from LA to New orleasn, rent a car from N.O. to Orlando (the train used to go to Orlando, but the tracks have not been repaired yet after Katrina) A couple of days a WDW then onto the cruise. Two questions...

 

1. What is the earliest that they start boarding the Ship (we want to be one of the first...in hopes of snapping up an xtra cabin...well it is a hope), and

 

2. The best rate we have for a rent a car is through Hertz for a one-way drop off. Does Hertz have a drop off spot near the ship? (and a shuttle?)

You can usually start boarding around 11:30 give or take thirty minutes. There is a Hertz about two miles from the port and they do offer a shuttle.

We,ve had good luck in the past with the Budget location, and I think they are the closest to the port. When checking online prices, their location code is CC5.
