Safety In Mexico

It shouldn't be a problem - we go every year or so, and the ports are secure areas. You tender in Baja, and occasionally in PV, and we always docked in Mazatlan. Even when you tender, at PV you will be in a secure location. The captain isn't going to let you be anywhere dangerous, IMO. Nancy

angelbear, I'm going to answer this tongue-half-in-cheek... but you've got a better chance of something going wrong in LA (or wherever you're departing from)... so in port as well as pre- and post-cruise, like Nick says, just be smart and you'll be fine.

I vacation in the interior of the Yucatan often. In fact going again in 30 days. I have never felt unsafe or unwelcome. Quite the opposite. I go to Merida and it is so safe that most police don't carry sidearms. The same can be said for the smaller rural towns.

I live and work in Mexico, been here for the past 20 years.

As long as you practice common sense you won't have any problems.

What you are really afraid of is the unknown. You do not know the language,

customs and laws.

Believe me in the cities the ship docks, tourism is very important, watch

out for pickpockets and do not leave your purse unattended.

Don"t look and act afraid. Get to know some merchants, talk to the

locals. Have a good time, pretend you are in LA.

We have cruised many times to Mexico - we've never felt unsafe. The Mexican people are wondeful, I wish the same could be said for their political system

We just returned fom the Mecury today. On May 1st we were scheduled for Mazatlan. We were notified that the ship needed a repair in Acapulco. A sea day was subsituted on the 1st and we stayed two days in Acapulco. It made us wonder if Celebrity didn't want us in Mexico on a day without gringos day...
