Victoria Day in Halifax?

It seems our cruise stops in Halifax on Monday May 22nd which I now see is Victoria Day. :o What should we expect? We were planning on going to Peggys Cove, the public gardens, and the Maritime Museum. Will things be closed for the holiday? Stores? Will there be a parade or other Local events? Just wondering:confused:

Big department stores and major museums are likely to be closed. Parade? No thanks, we're Canadian :P We don't really commemorate the event as such; it's just a reminder that we are a Parliamentary democracy and the Queen's representative (the Governor General) is our head of state. Most people treat Victoria Day as a pleasant day off.

Everything you've planned will be fine. Because it's a holiday, Nova Scotians will be doing those same things. I know the Maritime Museum will be open, because we often do the waterfront stroll and take in the museum (have season passes) if it's nice on Victoria Day. Some stores will be open, especially tourist-focused gift shops, but most will be closed. Expect mild crowds (we don't have enough population to create real crowding!) and a festive atmosphere if the weather is nice.

You will be fine. All the tourist related stuff stays open. Major shopping malls will be closed and you may see more traffic, but that isn't something to be concerned about (our traffic is nothing like the traffic you get in Philadelphia).
