Mai Tai Guy Posted May 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2006 I was reading up on drift snorkeling on Rangiroa and Frommer's Guide said there were several operators that did excursions there, but I have been unable to find any of them. Anyone out there been to Rangiroa and know who I can contact? Thanks for any info you may have.
andydee Posted May 12, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2006 I haven't done this one but read somewhere that the rip goes out rather than into the lagoon during the time the ship is there. Sounds like a great excursion if that is not the case. Cheers, Andy
TahitiTina Posted May 20, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 20, 2006 I've done it and it was awesome!!!!!! We were staying on Rangiroa and set up the excursion at our hotel, the Kia Ora Hotel. I don't know the name of the tour operator, but you may get some info through the hotel. It was about 2 hours and we "shot the Tiputa Pass" a couple of times. My husband was scuba diving and I went on the drift snorkel and I loved it! It felt like we were flying over everything and the abundance of fish, even black tips, and the clarity of the water was amazing. We tried a "drift snorkel" on a couple other islands- Huahine and I forget the other, but they don't even come close to what you experience in the Pass. I will definitely do that again when we return to Rangiroa. I hope it works out for you to try it. Tina
