bubbles1209 Posted May 20, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2006 For anyone who has ever been on a cruise (I haven't)..........yet;) What are the lengths of the formal gowns you have seen? Is floor length too formal?
MilliesMom Posted May 20, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2006 You will see the ladies wearing nice dresses, cocktail dresses, semi-formals and formals --- some even high end designer dresses. I often wear a floor length formal (otherwise my floor length skirt with fancy top) It's my chance to really dress up and my husband loves wearing a tux. Many cruises have two formal nights. I have a floor length black shirt and different beaded or fancy tops to wear with it if room in the suitcase is an issue. So a floor length dress definitely would be appropriate for the formal nights on the cruise.
caribbean dreams Posted May 20, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 20, 2006 You will see lots of long gowns on formal night. My daughters and i always wear floor length formal dresses because we love to dress up.
Cotton Posted May 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2006 You'll see ladies in everything from full-length sequined gowns to church dresses. It truly runs the fashion gamut. I sometimes wear black flowing evening pants w/sparkly top, and sometimes just "the little black dress" w/pearls.
LHP Posted May 20, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2006 I have worn everything from a Kasper pantsuit to a vintage Albert Nippon. You will see any and everything and all possibilities inbetween!!
JnK Posted May 20, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2006 On our last cruise, my 2 DD & myself wore floor length on both formal nights. For our upcoming cruise, we all chose to do a cocktail dress for our only formal night. My dress is black & will add jewelry & shoes with a silver stap accented with rhinestones to dress it up. For the DD's-one dress is a halter made of a silky material with a handkerchief hem & the other is strapless with a bubble type hem. Both will add jewelry & strappy dress shoes. If you decide to go with a floor length, you will not be too formal.
emmysmommy Posted May 20, 2006 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2006 On our cruise, I wore a floor length gown the 1st formal night and the second formal night something less "formal" that fell just to the knee. (It did show a bit more back and shoulders, but hey, by that point I had the tan thing going!) :D I snuck downstairs before dressing for the 1st formal night to see what the women were wearing and it appeared that for the earlier dinner seating there were more nice dressy dresses compared to the later dinner seating where I saw more formal gowns and tux's. Go with what you are comfortable with - you will look fabulous! :)
Cotton Posted May 20, 2006 #8 Share Posted May 20, 2006 ......it appeared that for the earlier dinner seating there were more nice dressy dresses compared to the later dinner seating where I saw more formal gowns and tux's. I usually have early seating, and I have noticed about the same amount of 'formality' as I've seen when I've had late seatings. Every cruise will be different anyway. emmysmommy Posted May 20, 2006 #9 Share Posted May 20, 2006 I usually have early seating, and I have noticed about the same amount of 'formality' as I've seen when I've had late seatings. Every cruise will be different anyway. That's so true. For our upcoming Glory cruise, we will have early dinner seating this time with our 10-yr old DD and we will be dressed just as formal as last time! :)
Maryutah Posted May 21, 2006 #10 Share Posted May 21, 2006 I wore a basic black dress, but my sister wore a floor length beautiful teal and hand beaded dress. There was every variety from sun dresses to glittering gowns - so fun to see the varied dress.
hstrybuf Posted May 22, 2006 #11 Share Posted May 22, 2006 Floor length is not too formal. In fact, I prefer them to cocktail length. They suit me better. Whatever length you decide to wear, enjoy! :)
