raudacruise Posted May 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2006 We are taking our parents on a cruise that includes Cozumel. Are there any beaches were they could snorkel? Getting up/down from normal snorkeling cats/sailboats wouldn't work for them (replacement knees/hips etc). Ideas CC mates?
cozgal Posted May 22, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2006 Some of our favorite places to snorkel are Palmar/DzulHa, Coral Princess( Open for non hotel guests, just open a tab and eat some lunch) and a small beach area in La Caleta Marina ..... Most of these areas have an ironshore beach area and there may be steps, or a ladder needed to enter the water. Chankanaab may have easier access. While the more shallow coral heads were damaged by Wilma there is still much to see....You may find the beach chart link below helpful as Sherry rates the beaches for snorkeling and provides links. http://www.cozumelinsider.com/Beaches?From=SnorkelTour Hope this helps! raudacruise Posted May 22, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted May 22, 2006 Thanks cozgal. Playa Uvas - Sur looks like a place to go. Not sure how bad it was damanged. Any info would be appreciated. Also we are going in at the end of June - flip a coin about water conditions. Not expecting a hurricane but a tropical storm could muck things up. Cozumel-Ian Posted May 25, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2006 If you really want to see reef, then a boat is the way to go. You could check out this Cozumel snorkeling tour with Fury - they have large modern catamarans with 'stairways to the ocean' which make getting in and out of the water a lot easier. The Paradise Beach snorkel tour uses the same type of catamaran too. Of course, if you are unlucky and the sea is choppy it may be a little tricky still... but that doesn't happen often. Uvas and Dzul Ha still offer beautiful beach snorkeling as well, but you won't see the same sort of reef that way... Uvas is trendy and a bit more expensive - they usual charge for entry too. Whereas Dzul Ha is more 'local' with slightly lower prices and no entry fee. Happy snorkeling! Ian
