trixie54 Posted June 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2004 We need to buy a new cell phone anyway, so want to get a tri-band that will accept the cheaper SIM cards for Italy & Greece, so can get better rates than using, for example, Verizon service. Is this possible, or do we have to use the brand's service? Any recommendations on brand of phone or service? We are able to switch at this point. Jacqueline Posted June 28, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2004 My AT&T phones that are GSM tribands are supposed to work in Europe. I will not be getting SIM cards in every new country I go to. Its all of $1.29 a minute or so for having the conveniece of my own phone and regular number. In the past we have rented phones from WorldCell for Europe and last summer got a satellite for Polynesia. But for the med, there is pretty good cell coverage mostly everywhere. Tahitian Princess Posted June 28, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 28, 2004 Hi Jacqueline, I just noticed you used a satellite phone in FP last year. How did it work there and what kind was it? Unfortunately, my husband will nned to be in contact with business and we think it would be better than going to phone booths. Plus, we want to stay in contact with the kids. Thanks for any information.
Jacqueline Posted June 28, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 28, 2004 It worked fine. He did need to be outside on deck for it to work - AT TIMES. It is suprisingly large compared to your cell phone. We got it as my DH needed it for work. He had to have many long conversations - mostly in the middle of the night with the time difference.
