Does Seabourn ever announce who will be lecturing on specific cruises, in advance? Crystal seems to have a better web site for individual cruise specifics (who'll be captain / CD, who's entertainment, who's bridge instructors, etc...)

Curious about who'll be lecturing on the March 2007 Pride crossing...:o

No, they generally don't announce lecturers in advance although they often have very good ones. The Seabourn website has lots of bells and whistles (and music) but little useful specific information about particular cruises, availabiliy or pricing. It looks as if they have a part-time webmaster who checks the site every couple of weeks or so to make sure it hasn't crashed and not much else.

If you talk to home office or your T/A they might have some info. But on a whole the talks are great. Most of the time they are people with great knowledge of the area you are traveling. On the whole they are very good but really nothing you can say WOW.

We had one lecturer on the Spirit who about 50% thought was great, and the other 50% fell asleep halfway through the lectures.......he lectured about the areas we were sailing through, which was quite interesting, sometimes a bit too political for me, and too many dates!! The one thing I didnt like though, was although he was supposed to have so much knowledge about these particular areas, the day we were going to a Mosque, and just by general knowledge, AND from a talk by the tour lady on board, AND written in the Herald, we knew that we were to cover up....long sleeves, long pants or skirts and scarves. The lecturers wife arrived at the Mosque in a short sleeved, short skirted suit, and wondered why she wasnt allowed in! And they are supposed to be the experts?

Granny,

We found the same on our Middle East cruise. The talks were so slow, and addressed the ancient history of the country but really not what most passengers were interested in. There lecturers are very educated but to be honest a little too educated. Most passengers we spoke to were more interested in the current issues facing the countries they visted and how the past history had contributed to society as it was today. Yet some passengers were enthralled with this lecturer so who is to say. You can't please everyone. It just goes to show that just because you are very educated on a subject doesn't mean you are a particularly great public speaker and it must be hard for Seabourn to judge this. Perhaps we should give more feed back on the speaker if we don't like them.
