What is there to do at the Maui port?

We will be on the Pride of Hawaii 6/12/06 sailing and will be at the Kahului, Maui port overnight on 6/14/06. We are trying to figure out if we should rent a car on the first day or the second day. If we decide to keep the car overnight, is parking available at the port? Also, for those who don't have a car, is there anything to see and do at the port?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I am a great fan of rental cars for the islands. Yes you can park the car at the pier, for free. The car gives you the freedom to explore the island at your own pace and to customize your Maui experience to what you want to see and do.

There is absolutely nothing to do at the Maui peir, it is an iondustrial area. There are shuttles that will take you to Hil Hatties and Walmart, but that us about it for the area. To see Maui, you must leave the ship area. ANyone who just stays close to the ship can not say that they have seem Maui. We paid $28 a day for our car and considered it the best investment that we made for the trip.
