Blackjack rules on Princess

Does anyone recall (or know where I can find out) the blackjack houserules used in the casino on Princess ships. We are sailing on CB in August. I enjoy playing blackjack but the houserules vary from casino to casino. Some of the rules can be so slanted in favour of the house that it is no fun. I'm sure the rules won't be as favourable as in Las Vegas but I hope they are reasonable.

number of decks in shoe?

dealer stands on soft 17?

double down allowed on any 2 cards?

double after split allowed?

surrender?

blackjack payout?

I haven't found the answers on the princess.com site....anyone know where this info might be?

The Princess Casionos are big on "specialty" games, so the rules will change from table to table,d epending on the game. Very few of them are "standard" BJ tables. I will not get some of your questions, but let me try...

~6-8 decks in the shoe (I think)

~the dealers stanindg or hitting soft 17 depends on the game

~Double down on any 2 cards, in some games only I think

~BJ payout standard 1 and a half times you bet. Unless you are in the tournment, then it is 2 to 1.

Some of the games are "fun 21", with Queens removed but a variety of bonus payouts (I like this one). "Face Up" blackjack, where the dealer shows both cards, but you loose pushes UnLESS you have 21. There are others, but those are 2 only two "special" games I play.

The tournaments are really fun, my sister got to the final tale both times she played it. $20 bucks to enter, chance to win $500.

Have a great cruise! Sorry my info wasnt more decisive!

They dont have a players club, like a regular casino, but that is the organization that runs the Princess casinos, and the rules are posted under the blackjack section. Thats the part I thought might be of some help!

Casey...thanks for the link. That is exactly what I was looking for. The rules are indeed posted. I hope they haven't changed. The rules seem reasonable and are the standard Atlantic City rules. An online source lists the house advantage for an 8 deck Atlantic City game at 0.47%....not bad. I suspect the other 'fun' games...Fun 21 and Face Up are more in the house's favour.

I don't know anything about the Wheel of Madness Blackjack, but it seems like a fun side bet.:)

I glad it helped. I am sure the others are substantially in the houses favor, theyare just kind of fun for something new! I think I liked playing them becasue they have special promotions (listed on the back of the patter daily) where the limits are lowered for those games. On the Island last month, you could most always find a $3.00 table with those, and at one point I sat and played the face up BJ for hours when it was a $1 table! Obviously that is not to make money, but just for entertainment!

The Wheel of Madness one is a fun side bet, but a house bet for sure. The lowest amount, and the amount you are most likley to win, is $11.00. I personally do not get a BJ every 11 hands, BUT I ususally play it when I am getting streaks of Blackjacks.

Have fun!

I think the odds of a getting Blackjack is about 1 in 21 hands (easy odds to remember) or 4.73% of hands.

Do you just use the regular strategy when playing the Face Up BJ?

Thanks for the info and link, Casey.

We have never cruised Princess and will be cruising Alaska on the Coral Princess with my wife's parents. Her mom and I enjoy going to the casino and were wondering what time it opens.

We have cruised Royal Caribbean a few times and their casinos typically open about an hour out of port. On sea days, it usually opens about 1PM if I remember correctly and closes "late". Is this about the same for Princess?

Also, I like playing the blackjack variation games as well for fun and your comments about them having a bigger casino take is right on.

Happy Cruising,

Paul

I don't remember. On Princess, does the dealer hit or stay on a soft 17?

I am led to believe stand on 17 as per http://www.oceanplayersclub.com but I have no first hand experience with Princess Casino. I am told they are managed by oceanplayersclub.com and their BJ rules or posted on their website.

Anyone who has sailed on Princess know for sure??

Princess' blackjack is quite player-friendly apart from the 8-deck shoe. The more decks, the lower the chances of being dealt a blackjack (it's based on conditional probabilities, so although the distribution is the same at the start, "favorable" conditions for being dealt blackjacks occur less frequently). You can double on any two cards, double after splits, and re-split up to four times. I recall that dealers stood on soft 17.

The tournaments, on the other hand, are a complete waste of time. Before Carnival, the money was distributed to the top three players after taking out a percentage for the dealers, all clearly stated. Now, the top prize is $500 regardless of the number of entries. You used to advance through the preliminaries by winning at your table. Now you get to the final table by posting in the top 7 final chip totals regardless if you win or lose your table. So, if you get a cold shoe, you are toast. (I've won tournaments playing smart against cold shoes, while weaker players busted out trying to fight the deck).

I don't play blackjack much any more, so my apologies if my info is in error.

Here is a link to the Wizard of Odds website: http://wizardofodds.com/spanish21

House odds if dealer hits on soft 17: .38%

Strategy for Fun 21 or Spanish 21 is slightly different than straight BJ. This is a fun game if played correctly. I've made some good money off of it.:D
