Hi there, I have just booked QE2 for Grandparents.

Never been on a cruise myself so I was wondering if anyone could give me any information that they may find useful.

What kind of activities can they expect on board?

Sorry for such a vague post.

They will have a ball. To give some idea of what's available;

Library will cover most tastes so they needn't think about taking a book if they want to read. There are dance classes in the afternoon, ballroom dancing in the evening. Art 'auctions'; they might not want to buy the masterpieces on offer, but they're fun to watch.

There may be cookery demonstrations in one of the large lounge areas, or a visiting speaker, perhaps an author or historian or traveller. Stage shows in the evening are very professional, theatre standard mainly. Or there might be a comedian and magician to entertain.

There are painting classes and history of Cunard tour and talks. The ship is filled with artefacts and display cases full of memorobilia. There's deck quoits and golf. Bingo every day, possibly a talent show, daily quiz, and there are numerous bars to relax with a cocktail of the day. To say nothing of the swimming pools, health spa, fitness centre, shops.

There won't be a dull moment and if they have the energy, there's a midnight buffet every night in the Lido restaurant; ice carvings and a stunning arrangement of buffet food. Then they can part till dawn in one of the bars...no only joking, it's not rowdy into the early hours, but there is plenty to do if they feel like it. Loads of opportunity to meet other passengers and if they like serious gambling or a little flutter, theres the casino with slot machines and card tables.

I hope they have a ball. I'm sure they will. Happy to answer and hope this gives you some idea.

Tell them we are all getting together at 10PM in the Commodore's Lounge Deck 10, I think it is. There is a lengthy thread about the 3 July cruise that explains about it. Tell them to join us and say "We're the Grandparents!!!" We'll all show them a good time!

Don't forget Bingo, in the Grand Lounge in the afternoon!

What happened to the horse racing? Why did they stop that?:(

Commodore's Lounge Deck 10

Sorry - That's the wrong ship:( (Although CC meetings are recommended - has anyone started a roll call for their cruise?)

Just a couple of things you might want to check for your parents:

Make sure they are not booked in a bunk bed (upper and lower berths) cabin

Make sure they are not booked in part of five deck that gets cut off from lifts when the watertight doors are closed.

Of course if they are athletic eighty years olds both of these would not be a problem.

Best wishes, Stephen.

Stephen.

How are they supposed to find out? Bet a Cunard booking agent wouldn't know! My memory, and it's many years since I was down there, is that it's 5036,5038-5059,5061 that get cut off from elevators/lifts. But I could be wrong. Your knowledge of QE is better than mine I'm sure and I'm very willing to accept that my memory has failed me, again! Please correct me (I think there cabins further aft who were also cut off, could very easily be wrong, as above, I think 5210-5223,5225,5227,5229). Correct an old man who's memory is failing!:)

Prepared for the non surpirse that he's wrong

(and am alone in finding it very confusing that QE decks are numbered down and QM decks are numbered up?)
