Stringray City or Sandbar?

Does ayone know the difference between Stingray City and Stingray Sandbar? We are going to Grand Cayman with Carnival this summer and haven't been able to get an answer about the difference.

They are 2 different locations. If you go on a snorkel excursion, then you will be going to the Sandbar. The water is fairly shallow there, so you will probably be able to stand. If you go on a dive trip to see the stingrays, that trip will go to Stingray City. The water there will be 12-15 feet deep. In reality, the basic difference is only in the depth of the water.

You might want to look into booking threw the web. It is cheaper and you get more. We have done it twice, once threw the cruise line and once booked with Caotain Marvin http://www.captainmarvins.com/. Captain marvin has 2 snorkle stops and then Sting Ray City. We had 10 people on our boat and threw the cruise line we had 30.

In Belize there is a Shark Ray Alley where snorkel tours go to.

In Grand Cayman, there is the original Stingray City dive site, often touted as one of the best shallow (12'-15') dives in the world. It is where divers stay down at the sand and interact with stingrays. Later on the Stingray Sandbar was created/discovered. At the sandbar people stand on sand in waist to chest deep water (4') to play with stingrays.

There are lots of tours and thousands of people going to the SR Sandbar on cruise days. Sometimes people refer to the SR Sandbar as SR City Sandbar. Many people mistakenly refer to the SR sandbar as SR city. Many people only know of the SR sandbar but not aware of the SR City dive location.
