Arranging tours on our own

My question has to do with booking tours for my family. I'm getting ready to book a 4x4 jeep tour in Aruba. It starts at 9:00am. We arrive in port at 8am. Is there a time change for me to worry about before I book this? Is there any in Dominica?

In the US they give you an hour flexing time, so just ask the assistant when booking the car. I don't remember changing my watch when we were there but I'm sure they're used to the question.

When arranging tours on your own, what happens if you don't get to the port, or get there late? Do you have to pay a deposit ahead of time? We booked all our tours through the ship on our first cruise, but would like to book ahead if possible for our next cruise to the Western Caribbean.
