mamalana Posted June 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2006 Doing the Inside Passage on NCL Sun July 29th. It will be Me, Hubby and our 5 year old daughter. I cannot decide what I want to do! Maybe a Bear watching trip..but SOOO expensive. I would really like to do one shore excursion, and then just sightsee. Which shore ex is best? Misty Fjords flightseeing, or Tracy Arm Catamaran ( 6 hours is pretty long for a 5 year old)Considering doing the Emerald Lake drive from Skagway (renting a car and doing it with Murrays guide). Is it worth taking the whole day to do? Or are there places to better spend our time doing there? Whale Watching sounds OK but I have been on whale watches before, and if you've seen one whale breach.. unless there are a ton of Orca, THAT I'd like to see, and will likely see at least a whale or 3 from the ship. Would a 5 year old be entertained by the Lumberjack show? SOOOO many choices....

tripster Posted June 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2006 From all I've read here on the boards, I would choose the Misty Fjords Flight Seeing Tour with Michelle from Island Wings. Other tours that are highly recommended are the helicopter tours. Either glacier landing or dogsledding; though, granted, they are expensive. But, hey, they are a once in a lifetime opportunity! Whatever excursion you choose, I am sure that you will have a fantastic time! And, yes, I think that your 5-year old would enjoy the Lumberjack Show. It is supposed to be very entertaining. H2O babe Posted June 15, 2006 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2006 If you decide to drive to Emerald Lake from Skagway you will want to have your car reserved through Avis before going. We had reserved ours well in advance and the Avis rep told us he has to turn people away every day a ship comes into town as there are many more customers that want to rent than he has cars. It was a beautiful drive. Only you know how your daughter will handle sitting in a car looking at scenery. You should be able to do the round trip in about 5-6 hours. We took longer because we had a very long day in port that day and we did lots of side road touring. Good luck with your decision.
