catshats Posted June 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2006 I am booked on the Norwegian Dream from Dover to Galveston with a stop in Miami. Where do the passengers have to go through customs/homeland security?
Rare LHT28 Posted June 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2006 I am guessing the first U.S. port/airport unless you have U.S. Customs at your departure point. I don't recall seeing any in the U.K. but then again we fly to Canada. In Canada we clear U.S. customs at the airport before boarding the plane to the U.S. Are you sailing from Dover U.K. to the U.S.?
wrp96 Posted June 19, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2006 You will go through US immigration in Miami and US customs in Houston. If you make a foreign stop in between Miami and Houston, will go through US immigration again in Houston as well. US Immigration - checks your passport to make sure you are allowed into the country. US Customs - checks to see what you are bringing into the country.

wrp96 Posted June 21, 2006 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2006 Immigration in Miami shouldn't take long since all you will be doing is showing your passport to an Immigration official. Ships frequently have to do immigration in Key West, San Juan, and St. Thomas in the middle of their cruises and people still have plenty of time to enjoy those ports.
