Customs in Miami or Houston?

I am guessing the first U.S. port/airport unless you have U.S. Customs at your departure point.

I don't recall seeing any in the U.K. but then again we fly to Canada.

In Canada we clear U.S. customs at the airport before boarding the plane to the U.S.

Are you sailing from Dover U.K. to the U.S.?

You will go through US immigration in Miami and US customs in Houston. If you make a foreign stop in between Miami and Houston, will go through US immigration again in Houston as well.

US Immigration - checks your passport to make sure you are allowed into the country.

US Customs - checks to see what you are bringing into the country.

Immigration in Miami shouldn't take long since all you will be doing is showing your passport to an Immigration official. Ships frequently have to do immigration in Key West, San Juan, and St. Thomas in the middle of their cruises and people still have plenty of time to enjoy those ports.
