Sail and Sign Card deposit

Does anyone know exactly how much is held on a credit card for the sail and sign account? I have read and have been told conflicting information from Carnival. One person told me it was $50 per person in the cabin per night, another told me it was $200 per person per cabin, and yet another said it was $350 per person per night. The Carnival website says $300 per person per cabin and then the brochure says $200 per person. Then our travel agent says that we set the limit.

As you can see I am rather confused at this point. I am just trying to make certain that I have enough credit to cover the 4 in our room and then still some credit for purchases.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I can see why you are confussed! However out of 5 cruises it has always been different. On our last one my sister asked the purser desk how much they hold and they told her nothing to start but if she started spending alot they might add one on... depending on what she was spending each day. Last year when I took my daughter I used my debit card for her account and didnt notice any hold...so I have no idea. But to be safe I would be sure to have enough for what Carnival says they do. You can also use cash if you like then you wont have to worry about holds on your card. My bank releases holds after 3 days so if dont effect me much.

I do know for sure it is not $350.0 pp per night:eek:

The "holds" for the various ships and cruises are as follows (by ship name - that's what the abbreviations are and often why you get different answers as it can vary from ship to ship even with the same length of cruise). Keep in mind that if you are securing the card with cash, then you determine the hold. Also, unless you later opt out, tips will be charged against your S&S account right away.

The holds are released as soon as the actual amounts are billed on at the end of the cruise.

Hope this helps.

Important Note: A hold will be placed on the credit card or checking account debit card at the beginning of the cruise as a deposit for an onboard purchases. This will reduce the amount of available credit on the credit card or restrict the availability of cash in the checking account. The hold will be released and actual charges will be billed at the end of the cruise.

The following dollar amounts, per guest, are used as a deposit and placed as a hold on the credit card when the Sail & Sign Account is opened:

If you are using a a debit card for the hold-- its very importatnt that you make sure before you go of any daily limit of withdrawals. This is where theproblem comes in for some people.

I have a daily limit of 200.00 so if I dont have that lifted it would create problems for me someday.

to the person who told you the limit is 50 bucks if crazy. The tips are taking out when you first sign in-- on a 6 day or longer cruise the 50.00 already exceeded that limit.

Cruise on the Liberty 6 days we put down cash of 300. for two people.

All I know is you definitely want to have enough to cover what you're going to spend on the trip. On the day of disembarkation, I kept hearing peoples' names being broadcast of the PA system telling them to report to the purser's desk. In the first announcement, they just said to report to the purser's desk. In the second announcement, if the named people hadn't show up, they said to report to the purser's desk "to settle your unpaid Sail & Sign balance." I thought they had some way of preventing people from spending more than they had available.

They were just calling people out and I'm sure they weren't going to let them off the ship until they paid. I can just see these people jumping from the decks and swimming to shore to get away. :D

They let no one off the ship till ALL accounts are paid up. I am surprised at the number of people who just think they can get off without paying it off. One cruise I wanted to go find the person myself-- I mean it took forever.

If you are worried about not having enough for your sign and sail card and credit purchases, I would advise you to put a cash deposit for your sign and sail card. I went on the Victory for 8 days and put down $250 and I received a $100 credit on my S&S card, at the end of the cruise I had $24 left and I went to the pursuer's desk and they refunded the $24 in cash.

REMEMBER that MOST things (I say MOST because I can't remember if I paid cash or not at the giftshop and I don't want to give incorrect info) onboard is purchased with your S&S card...drinks, photos, giftshop items, jewlery, shore tours, bingo, etc. etc.

Sorry but this information is not accurate. When I traveled on Elation in May I specifically asked at check in how much of hold would be on the CC, simply because I was curious. I was told that they did not place holds.

I have no idea what the answer will be when you ask. The only way you will know how much is going to be there is to ask at check in.

Luv-- you did not pay cash in the gift store-- on a ship its a cashless society and no one will be allowed to take your money.

casino and bingo you use cash. OR sign and sail card)

Now on the last day while waiting to get off a person can buy photos from the photo gallery or drinks at a bar-- and only then is cash used. (plus tax now) gift store will NOT be opened

FYI, the chart posted is from Carnival's website and is generally the guidelines used. It can depend on where the ship is going as to when they can update the information. In any event, previous posters are correct that arrangements have to be made to cover your account before you'll be allowed off the ship.

We were on the Victory in January and they did use a hold, but since the family was traveling together and using one credit card to hold, it was not the per person amount listed - I believe it was equal to 2 people, but it really didn't matter to me, so I didn't pay any attention to it. It was released at the end of the cruise anyway.

Thank you all for the information. I just wanted to make certain I had enough credit available for any hold during the ship and then some for any shopping at the ports. Based on some of your experiences, I do not think I need to worry about being turned away for not having $1200 available to be held on my credit card as the website had me believing.
