Cambridge Posted June 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2006 Not sure if CC is the right place to ask this question so apologies if not. We are from the UK doing an Alaska cruise from Vancouver in September and then doing a self drive tour of the the Rockies. We want to have a phone with us for confirming accommodation and emergency use if necessary. Can anyone advise on whether we'd be better with a pay as you go sim card or phone from Canada rather than paying the excessive charges from our UK provider for use in Canada. eritouma Posted June 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2006 I guess I would recommend that first check with you UK provider and see what the rates would be... after that you can figure how much you might use and then see. I personally would go for a local pay-as-you-go phone here in canada. Recently, Virgin Mobile has been offering phones for C$69, comes with a few buck of airtime. I think you can find this special at the virginmobiledotcome site under canada.... HTH..
smeyer418 Posted June 28, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2006 Since Canada uses the CDMA standard, I am not sure that you Eurpoean phone based upon the GSM standard would work at all. Check with your carrier.
